Hi?
I seen all these cans of food, and a lot of them don't have any preservatives in them (according to their lables).
How is this even possible? I mean yes its sealed, but there's still air in it. Plus the food itself so shouldn't it be a very fertile ground for bacteria growth? Or are they acctually lying and that there IS preservatives?
I ask this because I eat a lot of canned food and I want to make sure i am not unwittingly poisoning myself.
Thanks.

its hermetically sealed. the sealed can is then heated, cooking the food under pressure, which kills pathogens.
or thats what im lead to believe
though remember its not foolproof nor sterile, so canned food wont last forever (though it is a long time), and be wary of cans that have bloated
Many canned goods have added salt and are also of a rather acidic nature both being detrimental to most bacteria.

Also beware that lots of times there might be microscopic holes in the can, this could spoil the contents.

But some of them can't be heated, such as fruits (you know those peach halves)

I think you have a point however some of them, such as peach halves, don't have salt or contain a lot of acid..

Canned peaches are still boiled. At least, that's how home-canning is done.
Cans with dents in them might have tiny holes which let bacteria and air in. I've still eaten them though; they smelled fine and I cooked it extra long.
Never come across a bulging can before, though.

The theory is that is is heated to a point that kills everything while it's sealed so nothing else can get in. Bacteria doesn't just form out of nowhere.
As for bulging cans, there was a hut from when my uncles town first got tv that had like 40-50 year old cans before they started bulging:o

Sugar does the same job as salt. If you look at canned food, you'll find most of it in some sort of water-based solution of, usually, salt or sugar, and the osmosis does the job killing the germs.
man, if you have canned food without an expiration date on it, its time to toss it. i mean what is it doing besides giving you the illusion you have food?

i think the peach halves dont seem very sour to you, but they are pretty acidic, and as said above, sugar is also a perservative, though it doesnt stop yeasts. if i recall:
salt:stops moulds, some bacteria
sugar:stops bacteria, not moulds
acid: stops moulds, some bacteria
ethanol: kills most things at 15% concentration
dehydration: stops everything, but leaves spores
boiling temperatures: same as dehydration
boiling under pressure: kills everything

If you want to eat only fresh, more expensive fruits and vegetables and meat and other things that you otherwise have to buy in canned form because you are poor as shit, then get a better job, oh great McDonalds cashier lady. Beggars can't be choosers. Canned food is fine anyway, so just shut up and eat it.

I asked a question about canned food, not career advice, so you shut your ugly fag face.

I'm not the one that pretends to be a girl on the internet like some cross dressing queer.
And there is NOTHING wrong with canned goods. Even if they do have preservatives in them.

canned food - probably fine.
canned food all the time - probably not as fine.
chances are you will be ok. you might get something if youre unlucky - i neither know nor care. but only eating canned food? thats gonna fuck you up in some way, even if its just minor internal effects or something like that.
