1.) My Winnipeg
2.) Happy-Go-Lucky
3.) Il Divo
4.) Ashes of Time Redux
5.) Summer Hours
6.) The Fall
7.) Vicky Christina Barcelona
8.) Synecdoche, New York
9.) Burn After Reading
10.) Doubt
EDIT: I guess I didn't make this clear enough. What are YOUR top 10 films of 2008?
EDIT2: Saw Doubt, Gran Torino, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button since posting this. Doubt was great and replaced #10 on my list, Gran Torino was decent, and Benjamin Button sucked.

Oh man, Happy-Go-Lucky is fantastic. And really surprising coming from Mike Leigh, whose films generally provide a pretty good argument for killing yourself (Naked in particular). Sally Hawkins is the one who's getting all the accolades, and she's great, but the scenes with Eddie Marsan as the fucked up paranoid driving instructor is where the movie really stands out, one of my favorite performances of the decade for sure. People bitch about the lack of plot and so on but they don't get where the Mikester is coming from, it's just a slice of life and a character study.
I was never a Woody Allen fan in the past -- the goofy neurotic NYC Jew thing never really did much for me -- but I really dig the stuff that's come out of his recent "serious" turn, and Vicky Christina Barcelona is pretty much the peak of that so far -- better than Match Point. Plus I'm obsessed with Scarlett Johansson.
There are torrents out there for Happy-Go-Lucky, the DVD came out a few months ago in the UK.
Synecdoche, New York is still fucking with my head. I've gotta see it again.

How about "Doubt". Just judging from the trailer looks interesting, plus I loved Philip Seymour Hoffman in Owning Mahowny, am wanting to go see that one, oh and you forgot to mention Wall-E.

Nothing that looks cool is coming out on Christmas except for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, so let's just get this shit started already.
1.) My Winnipeg
2.) Happy-Go-Lucky
3.) Il Divo
4.) Ashes of Time Redux
5.) Summer Hours
6.) The Fall
7.) Vicky Christina Barcelona
8.) Synecdoche, New York
9.) Burn After Reading
10.) Encounters at the End of the World
I swear you just make these names up.
I'll check em out tho. God knows I find it hard enough finding decent movies nowadays. Perhaps we have similar tastes.

He's not putting Wall-E b/c these are mostly indie films, not commercialised films.

Hey dudes, I'm not seeing any top 10s or even top 5s. I didn't just post this so we could talk about my taste in movies.
no mention of the dark knight?
Good, but not great. The first time I saw it I was too overwhelmed by nostalgic fanboyism, I was just like "Holy shit a Batman movie that doesn't make me cringe." But it didn't really hold up as well the second time around. Kind of boring at parts, I found myself spacing out during speeches and just waiting for the next Joker scene.
How about "Doubt". Just judging from the trailer looks interesting, plus I loved Philip Seymour Hoffman in Owning Mahowny, am wanting to go see that one, oh and you forgot to mention Wall-E.
Doubt hasn't been released in my area yet, in fact it might not be coming around at all, I dunno. Looks good though. I actually had Wall-E on here at first but replaced it with Encounters at the End of the World, mostly due to my obsession with Antarctica, Werner Herzog's oddly soothing German accent, and the stunning visuals.
I swear you just make these names up.

I'm not trying to be obscure, I promise. It's just that when you've seen a shitload of movies, almost everything Hollywood puts out nowadays feels like you've already seen it a hundred times. Hit up your local art theater if for no other reason than the fact that they can't show explicit female masturbation at the cineplex. If you don't have a local art theater, seek out a Netflix membership or a KG invite (I don't have any, my ratio is shit).

Mongol. Fucking amazing movie.
I almost fell asleep during this one, thought it was very disappointing. Overlong, boring, messy, none of the characters were interesting, and it was pretty sappy for a movie about one of the most ruthless tyrants who ever walked the earth. All it really had going for it: good landscape shots and battle scenes.

I loved that it was sappy, for the most part. Every history writing of him portrays him as barbaric, but the Mongol based writings described him as being an honest and loyal dude who was true to his word.
I was a little disappointed with the ending though, coulda used a few more battle scenes, just because of the interesting tactics he used.

5. Rambo (because it was so lulzily OTT)
That's all I can think of, I've got a whole bunch on my hard drive waiting to be seen.
I was going to add Gone Baby Gone but imdb tells me it was a 2007 release...
1. The Dark Knight
2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
3. Slumdog Millionaire
These are the top three.
i saw The Spirit and Benjamin button... they were both really gay. Yes Man the week before that was great though. I was stoned on each occasion but that doesnt change how I feel about these 3.

rocknrolla was the shit. and the happening was shit, possibly the worst movie i've ever watched the whole thing of. that's my take on 2008's movies.
*The Dark Knight (apparently Christian Bale's voice was too gravely. I couldn't say - I wasn't really paying much attention to him. Ledger deserves an Oscar gravestone)
*Zack and Miri make a Porno (funny)
*Indiana Jones IV (nonstalgic)
*Gran Torino (nonstalgic)
*Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr = tres' cool)
*Son of Rambow (not the Stallone film)
*Wall-E (cute, long, preachy, but good)
I'd include No Country for Old Men, but it won Javier Bardem an Oscar last year..
Worst?
Dunno, the worst one I saw was
'X-Files I want a Refund'.
Didn't like
'Burn before Viewing' either.
Sense: You make none.
I saw the movie faded. I thus liked it. I realize it would be utter shit if I was sober when I watched it, but since I wasn't that means I still enjoyed watching it. This doesn't mean that I think it was a good movie or that I would reccommend it to anyone, because I honestly wouldn't.
Don't get your panties all in a bunch, it's just a movie.
