View Full Version : The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Anyone else played this game? What are your thoughts? This is game is EPIC SUCCESS.
If you have played this game did you feel disappointed that the adventure was over at the end?
Link's athleticism inspired me to no longer be a fat ass.

It was too cartoonish. OoT, MM, and TP were better

My favorite in the series. The graphical style is astounding, the gameplay is fun and there is lots to do. The only problem with it is there is too much ocean the fucking triforce/tingle shards.
The art style is fucking fantastic. I wish more games would have a cel shaded style.

It's pretty cool except when you have to gather the 8 pieces of the triforce, which gets kinda boring. Other than that, it's an epic Gamecube game and I highly recommend it.
I still prefer Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask though.
Loved the game, my only complaint was travelling between islands on the boat, it just took too long until you got the bow and could learn the song to travel between islands and the thing where you gotta find the 8 triforce pieces was just annoying. I also would have enjoyed a bigger island with more to do on it somewhere in the game.
But I loved the art direction, maybe if the game had a bit longer of a draw distance it could have been greater, but everything looked good.
Game was way too damn long.
OOT/majora
Wind Waker
Alttp
Twilight.
In that order of awesomeness.

My 2nd favourite Zelda game after Link's Awakening. People who bitch about it being cell shaded are idiots.

I used the time given to find the triforce pieces to travel the great sea. There was lots to do and people to meet. Did you happen to catch that blonde girl stealing from the safe on windfall island? I always find her trying to open the safe but she runs off when i try to block her exit.
Game was alright, it was quite entertaining at the time. But it's not like i'd bother to replay it now.

Wind Waker kicks Twilight Princess' ass because of one simple fact.
It was fun!
Twilight Princess was fucking boring, the world was too big and you never really cared for the people in it. The magic was gone.
But The Wind Waker...now that was a cool game :)

Both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess would have been far better games had they actually had some kind of challenge in them.
I honestly don't think I ever died in Wind Waker once.
Now, I'm not asking for bone shattering difficulty, but I remember going through some boss fights and not losing but a couple hearts. You don't really get any sense of struggle unless the boss can dish out some punishment and at least make you use a fairy or two. Some of the boss fights should have been dialed up about ten times over because they were Staples easy button simple.
Still great games with impeccable art direction, great music, and excellent dungeon design, but I'd love to see the next Zelda have a drastic difficulty adjustment. I think they have the puzzles nailed down, they have just the right balance between "what the fuck do I do? and "oh shit, now I get it!", but fighting a giant spider doesn't do anything for me if I can whip his ass first go without taking more than a couple hits.

They weren't all that easy as they were easy to be good at. That kind sounded weird, huh? What I am getting at here is how easy it is for someone who likes the games to get really good at them. The big challenge of Zelda games was always the puzzles anyway, and not the fights. Try letting someone play a Zelda game who has never played it before or isn't a fan of the series and you'll see what I'm trying to say. They'll be like: WTF am I supposed to do here?

This exactly. When i first played HalfLife 2 I thought it was pretty easy, but some of my friends thought it was fucking solid. The difference was I played the first halflife, Opfor and Blue shift before and they hadnt. You get used to a games style and stuff so when youre used to them, its obviously not going to be so challenging. I bet you dont remember your first Zelda game to be easy :P.
I liked Windwaker, although i never finished it. I got to the getting the 8 triforce shards from the ocean and found it extremely tedious and lenghty and just gave up after i had 4 or 5 shards. For me this game comes after OoT and TP. OoT was my first zelda game and obviously was the one that got me addicted, and even though lots of people have complaints with TP, I thought it was fantastic and the only thing that couldve been better would be having orchestrated music instead of MIDI.

Ever have trouble with a zelda game given a bit of time? Try to complete them without picking up any heart pieces or something.

See, I agree with you on the puzzles. I know at this point my mind is just in tune with the developers and I usually have a good idea of what I should be doing, and if they increased the difficulty people new to the series would be stumped forever. But the boss fights? Sure I'm good at picking out patterns and exploiting weaknesses from years of gaming, but you've got to admit that some of those boss fights were just waaaay too easy. In TP the only boss I died on was the final boss, the rest I had half my hearts left and a couple I only ended up getting hit by a couple times. Considering I usually had at least one fairy in a bottle this made every fight seem like a total cakewalk. I think the only reason I died on Ganon was because I'd stopped carrying fairies at that point because it seemed entirely pointless. In Wind Waker, I didn't die on any boss once :(.

Yeah, I plan to do that when I replay them again. Although adding extra difficulty to a game through tricks like this is more like a bandage than anything else.
boss fights
The fight dual with Ganon at the end was the best.

That sums it up. I don't really have anything to add to that. The boss fights have become, if nothing else, pretty damn spectacular. Visually that is. Every time I beat a boss in one of the newer Zelda games, no matter how easy it was, I still get a satisfactory feeling of accomplishment. They could easily fix this problem by adding a difficulty option and just making the bosses hit harder. Because in terms of design, they're all perfect.
