View Full Version : How much can a stock bottom half of the engine in a SR20DET take?

My views have slowly been wafting away from old American muscle to Japanese imports.

And no, I'm not talking about underglow, spoilers, hydraulics and what not, I mean the engines and the cars.

I've been looking at a SR20DET block for sale pretty cheap, and some cheap performance parts like injectors and camshafts.

I don't want to rebuild the bottom end, nor do I want to blow it up with the power. Does anyone know how much they can handle?

I dont know the answer, however it should be something fairly decent, i know the vg can take 400-500 before there really starts to be problems.

Oh but heres a much more helpful answer i found.

I lol'd at the link.

I didn't really know what to google, and I also figured I'd get a better answer here

I also had another question I'd ask when I got my origional answer, which is:

All over, for that motor, I've been told that when it's upgraded and tuned, I should get a new ECU chip.

I looked at some of them, and most things that I found suggested that I would have to solder the new chip on and what not.

Is this true? With a new ECU would I have to solder it on?

Also, why do you have to have a higher octane gas with more boost?

you need higher octane gas to avoid preignition and engine damage, and as for the ecu, dont waste your money on a chip or new ecu, when it comes to Nissan the ONLY way to manage a tune worth a damn is to order nistune from Australia. By far the best option.
