i think im just gonna have to buy a new computer this one blows
Tiny XP.
Will run great with 512MB of RAM. I usually have 75% of my RAM free.
Small CPU footprint too.
Peace.

try to buy a new computer. i have my old ME rig sitting on the floor, and it's been out of commission for a while now. even buying an old computer, but one newer than that one, will be pretty cheap.
also, check out the The Material Bartering Thread stickied over at DIY. RDProgrammer has some computer up for trade, maybe you can find something you have that he might want.

edit: you deserve ME
I've always heard ME is absolute shit, but for the short time I've used it, I never found anything wrong with it. Just seemed like windows but with a different name.
Somebody care to enlighten me?

XP and Vista are the only two Windows OS's I'd ever consider running.
If the processor is less than about 400MHz, or if the system has 128MB or less of RAM then Id recommend windows 2000. If its faster with 256MB or more RAM then XP will better utilize the hardware. XP's minimum requirements are 233mhz/64MB but with hardware like that, and low ram, 2000 will provide the better experience.
Windows ME was an abomination. Weird crashes, bad drivers, installation problems, the list goes on. The only point to continuing the 98 product line would have been the DOS support, but 98 remains the choice for a legacy system with that need. Thankfully my experience with the OS was limited as we only had a few school computers with it, but i do remember how shittily slow it was.

Wow, mods are really helpful nowadays in T&T...
Anyway, ME was a horrible plane crash of an OS based on 98 with a few new features added, which causes problems.
If it really is an old machine - say 400mhz - Win 2000 will run very well.

Didn't know it was my responsibility to answer every question asked, nor is it mine to not flame kidiots.

Windows Andors Edition will probably suit your needs well.
