Okay, TOTSE, time to nominate your end of the year album. This post will hopefully survive until January 1st, where I, or you (if you're too impatient to wait for me to do it) will tally the votes and name the album of the year. If there is a tie, I myself will decide. Fuck you guys, let's go!

Deerhunter- Microcastle/Weird Era Continued
are you fucking serious?!? I saw them live and it was TERRBIBLE, three of them left the stage from realization of how shit they were doing, literally quit mid song....
explain why deerhunter is good at all
3 guitars playing the same thing? come on
half the time they were turned away from us , fixing their amps !

They're okay if you're into that kind of vibe (i.e. wimpy '80s 4AD type stuff). They're the kind of band I wish was around when I was a 15 year old cough syrup drunk, but not something I care a lot about nowadays. I've seen them live and they were fairly mediocre, but not nearly as bad as you describe.
Any discussion with the guy you're replying to isn't going to get anywhere -- he's into Pitchfork's Greatest Hits and you're into NIN and MSI. Two different sides of the white suburban stoner spectrum

Not true I love any music that is good, Deerhunter had the potential to be good
I love the pixies for example, Deerhunter sounds liek they wanted that, and , mutilated it. However, you're probabay right in that it won't get anywhere..

Who cares if my parents are rich and i'm white? does that really mean my opinion on music is invalid? because im not some tru streets proletariat? deerhunter are geared at college kids anyway, which i happen to be, so update the "15 year old cough syrup" schlock if you want that criticism to hold any water.
aaaaand i don't try to cultivate my musical taste to create "cred," so i don't really give a fuck if pitchfork or NME or rolling stone or any other publication runs convergent with me. i mean if you want to attack the actual music that's one thing, which is why i'm not gonna argue with your opinion on deerhunter's MUSIC, it's obviously just a band that's not for you. but to attack someone's taste because some website likes the same bands is pretty fucking moronic, and you're intelligent enough to recognize that.

and i'm not even gonna bother responding to criticism from a MSI/NIN fan, fucking trash.

I don't care if you're rich and white. I didn't even say anything about that.
I said I wished Deerhunter was around when I was a 15 year old cough syrup drunk because they have a similar vibe to some of the rock stuff I was into as a teenager -- Spacemen 3, His Name Is Alive, Jesus & Mary Chain, shoegaze, etc. Except there weren't many bands like that around at the time. So if anything that's actually a (somewhat backhanded) compliment to Deerhunter

lol, I was just kidding around with that. Chill out dude. I'm a pretentious dick on these boards and as such I love to make digs at people's music taste. I actually had "indie faggot shit" in the original post but changed it to "Pitchfork's Greatest Hits" because I'm such a nice guy.

I just realized most of my purchases this year weren't of brand new releases.
Cynic - Traced in Air
I haven't heard it all the way through yet, but of the 5 tracks I've heard, it's clearly going to be one of my favorite albums.
Runner-Ups
Opeth - Watershed
Ayreon - 01011001
The Residents - The Bunny Boy
Heavy Heavy Low Low - Turtle Nipple and the Toxic Shock (really difficult, but really good)
The Tangent - Not As Good As The Book
Portishead - Third
Protest the Hero - Fortress
Genghis Tron - Board Up the House
Black mountain - In the Future
Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV (very different from their other stuff; I'm no big NIN fan, but this was great)
Meshuggah - ObZen
Bloodbath - Unblessing the Purity
The Roots - Rising Down
Ihsahn - angL
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer
Islands - Arm's Way
Sigur Ros - impossible to type on a human keyboard
Nas - Nigger
Mogwai - The Hawk Is Howling
Marillion - Happiness Is The Road
I still need to listen to the new Kayo dot album.
This was a very metal year for me in terms of new releases. Meanwhile, in back catalog stuff, I've been going pretty much as far from metal as humanly possible. I also didn't include In Rainbows for what I hope is an obvious reason. I am also clearly very, very indecisive when it comes to 2-X places.

Put me down for Cynic's Traced in Air.
Personal runner-up: Enslaved's Vertebrae.
Disturbed - Indestructible <---Awesome and even better in concert with POD
Steve Forde - Guns & Guitars <----Another awesome one (little known Aussie Country singer) another one who goes off live.

True, the albums he mentioned sucked balls, but you also said Children of bodom-bloodrunk was good. Do you suck as much cock as that guy?

Because In his opinion Children of bodom = to or < Disturbed which makes CorpseGrinder22 is as faggy as chasm69.
Twilight of the Thunder God - Amon Amarth ( I haven't really payed attention to the mustic that came out this year)

I wouldn't say Children of Bodom are 'less' than Disturbed, however Blooddrunk was a terrible record. Well, most of their albums are terrible...save for Follow the Reaper.
Twilight of the Thunder God - Amon Amarth ( I haven't really payed attention to the mustic that came out this year)
I'd disagree here too. Amon Amarth are good for some epic viking metal-ness every once in a while, however they have essentially made the same album at least four times now.

On what musical standing of any sort could you consider COB to be anything BUT better than Disturbed...

One album out of all the albums isn't bad, at least compared to Disturbed, who is completely shitty on all albums. Thus, we can prove that Children of Bodom > Disturbed.
So I contribute:
Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock - Joe Satriani
Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar - Paul Gilbert
Of those two, Paul Gilbert takes the cake. The title track on the album kicks ass, and its a great exemplification of Paul's tapping skills. But I must give credit to Satriani for picking such an amazing album name.

Oh! I forgot one very important album.
Intronaut - Prehistoricisms
The only big issue I saw in Void and The Challenger was that they squandered their great, jazzy almost-Cynic like take on post-metal with copping ISIS' shit all the time. Then I picked up this album and they apparently fixed all of those issues. This sounds like if Cynic, Isis and Primus merged into a super-group and crated a fantastic fusion/post-metal record. The last track is a 16-minute, 5-part instrumental piece that is just thrilling and not metal at all. Stellar record. Highly recommended if any of what I said sounds remotely interesting.
