All right totse help me choose an AR-15
Some background on me, I’m getting this rifle as a kinda intro to the firearms world. My old man (he’s considering getting one himself) is paying for half of it and he insist that it be an AR type platform, so nix on on the AK suggestions. It’s mostly for target practice and potently dealing with that end of the world thing I keep hearing about.
It must have a:
16in barrel with a 1:9 twist (crome-moly is better)
Removable carry handle or flat top with rails for optics
Adjustable stock
Chambered to 5.56
I would like it to have
a front rail to attach a forward grip to
Iron sights
A case deflector and dust cover
I'm trying to keep this under $1200
These are a few I'm considering, but I don't have experience with any of these brand, any horror stories or good experiences with these guys? suggestion on other brands? Thanks!

If you want to keep it under $$1200 you are going to have to build it yourself.
It would also be cheaper to buy a railed hand guard and put it on yourself. Because if you buy those on the rifle from the factory the price will be high on it.
the removeble carry handle goes on the flattop so it is not or. What you want to do is order a ar15 carbine flattop upper kit from what ever online dealer you like. you could go name brand but it wont matter. I have a M&A.com carbine upper and it works fine. Model 1, j and t, cmmg, are all decent and pretty cheap. This can be ordered and deliverd to your door. this kit will come with al the parts to assemble you lower receiver. The upper comes pre assembled. you then goto your local gun dealer and purchase an AR stripped lower receiver. The stripped lower is considered the firearm by law.
to assemble the stripped lower you follow this:
www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782
by doing it your self you will be able to build the rifle for 600-800 depending on what parts you want to use. if it is the most basic it will be about 600-700. If you want to get things like chromed or titanium bolt carriers and firing pins it may be more. as for the 4 rail handguard system they can cost anywhere from $80- $500 and it is something else you can install your self with a tiny bit of work. in my opinion you really dont need a quad rail, you could just get 2 rails and attach them on the stock handguards.
My rifle is a dpms lower and M&A.com upper and I have never had a jam, ftf, ftfire, failure to eject, or any other malfunctions or failures. it costed me $600-700 total and then another $200 for the 3moa reddot.

Edit: also you do NOT need a m4 upper. A car15 upper works just as well. It still comes with m4 feed ramps, a slightly different handguard shape(doesnt matter because you are getting a aftermarket handguard), and the barrel has a cut for a m203 grenade launcher that you will never be able to get your hands on anyway. so just get the CAR15 it is also cheaper.

Yeah model 1 is cheap a decent for the money, they also offer alot of different calibers IIRC. I have used www.m-aparts.com/ and I have had no problems with it at all and I have put atleast 1000 rounds through mine and even have ran it dry with no lubricant.

Stag Arms make very good parts for the money. RRA is nice in the amount of options they present, but their components aren't anything particularly special. I'd rather have a CMMG at that price point.

RRA is known for its tight fitting upper and lowers. Which some think makes them more accurate. From what I have heard it doesn't really matter.
If you are going for the best parts you may just want to go with colt. Even colts break. Asd long as these other companies build the clones to proper spec and they use decent material any upper or lower will be fine.
if you dont mind spending the extra money you could just buy it. You could even buy a complete lower that is already assembled and you could get any upper you want. It would be 250-500 for a complete lower and you can get a chrome lined CAR flattop upper (for 350$). You would need to buy a rear sight($39.99-500$ of your choice,optic(optional$50-$4000), and then you would have to buy a bolt carrier aessembly($80-250). And atleast 1 mag(12.99-30.00) That right there would be a decent rifle. a 4 rail handguard willl cost anywhere from $80.00- $500.

www.del-ton.com is supposed to make decent rifles and uppers.
400$ with charging handle and bolt carrier:
www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Barrel_Assembly_p/dt1015.htm
it is 500$ for a rifle kit, that is not bad:
www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Rifle_Kits_16_s/57.htm
i have heard that delton makes a good product for the money. it iss said to be better quality than model1 uppers.

Thanks for the advice so far! I was really wary about buying a kit and trying to peace every thing together because I though i would A: miss some critical peace and end up blowing up the upper receiver or B: have a mishmash of parts that never really came together. But this site (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/GunTech/NewsletterArchive.aspx?x=v&p=0&t=1&i=1103)has a ton of vids on how to build so this options is looking better and better :D

So if I snap part A (http://www.del-ton.com/Rifle_Kit_p/rkt104.htm) into part B (http://www.del-ton.com/Del_Ton_Lower_Receiver_p/lr100.htm) is that seriously all that I need to do?

Yes ar15 parts ar interchangable as long as they were made to proper spec.
