Seriously, the PS2 is still sells a lot of units and continuously outsells PS3 on monthly sales. PS2 is usually either 3rd or 2nd in most sold console of the month and Wii is always #1 and sells a lot, but will the Wii ever outsell PS2 in total sales to replace the PS2 as the most bought system of all-time? I am not so sure that it will even with the big craze over the Wii, the PS2 has had a crazy over 8 years, the Wii has only been out for 2 years.

Check out this link if you dont believe me.

If the wii continues at this rate, yes it will probably pass the ps2.

And the ps3 probably will not... not even close. It might outsell the gamecube though... maybe...

the Wii is selling at a fast rate, but the Ps2 also sold at about the same rate when it first came out, plus the PS2 is still bought at about half the rate Wii's are, which sounds like a lot but isn't since the PS2 had a 6 year head start. on monthly sales the PS2 is either the 2nd or 3rd most sold system (it bounces back and forth with the Xbox 360) and almost always finishes ahead of monthly totals when compared with the PS3.

Man, you need to get your fucking facts straight.

Again, the PS2 does not sell at half the rate Wii's do, not even close.

And the PS3 is outselling the PS2 monthly, although not by much.

The Wii has been outselling all other consoles, and the DS has been outselling everything everywhere ever.

As for the PS2, it's sure getting there!

The Wii just might outsell the PS2 down the line. theres really no telling. you have to take into consideration that the PS2 has had a very long lifeline; begining in '00 and it's recently started to die down a bit. you also have to think about the amount of support it had; a fucking shitload. the wii is taken seriously by many 3rd party developers, but not enough to pass up developing shinier games for more powerful consoles. it just all depends on how long Nintendo support it for and how much they actually support it. rumor has it that their next console will be out around 2011. going by how little Nintendo supported the Gamecube after the release of the Wii, that inturn gives the Wii about 5 years of complete support (as compared to the PS2's 6 - 8 years). ironically, Sony were basically hurting themselves (the PS3) with the PS2 for a while. I give them alot of respect for it, but they should have cut PS2 support a little sooner. stuck with fewer SKUs, kept PS2 backward compatibility intact with each; and they also should have used more agressive marketing techniques. the only thing they've really been trying to point out about the PS3 are the benefit of BluRay. most people could care less. many are finally starting to get the hang of DVD.

as for the PS2 outselling the PS3: not lately. it was for a while, yeah. but just not recently. and unless some major disaster happens over at Nintendo, I can't see the PS3 ever outselling the Wii. I can see it's rate of sales eventually increasing and perhaps switching 2nd place back and forth with the 360. maybe even surpassing it on some good months. but against the Wii's momentum, no way. way too wider of an appeal. everyone I know has a Wii. everyone I work with who play video games have 360's. aside from myself the only people I know who have PS3's are people who work at Gamestop. it's an expensive machine in a shitty economy. it would be stupid to say that it's price and lack of understanding aren't what is hurting it. same thing happened with the original Xbox. if it weren't for MGS4 and BluRay's win at the format war, the PS3 would be fucked right now. I know I wouldn't have gotten one. big thanks to both as they made me realize it's actually a damn good console, with some hella potential.

People are fucking cracked out on the Wii. Not gamers, I'm talking about the general public here. They buy up the shovelware like it's going out of style, they all want "that game with the steering wheel", they buy the stupid fucking Nerf controller covers that look like bats and golf clubs.

I don't see the Wii ever dying...at least, not until they've sold one to damn near every family in America. If they could have manufactured more, there's no telling how many they could have sold this holiday season. I have turned away hundreds - literally, hundreds - of people looking for Wii's from my store in the last few weeks because we were sold out. I would imagine it was the same story at pretty much every store around the nation.

PS3's? 360's? Yeah, we got those, no problem. But they don't have "that game with the wheel" or stupid fucking Nerf controller covers.

I do have my facts straight, look at the link I posted. and PS3 is not outselling PS2 on monthly basis.

The price does affect it, but I mentioned that on another board and ppl thought I was stupid.

So you're analyzing data from over a year ago?

What relevance does that have today? We've went through an entire year of sales since then, and we've seen quite a few price drops. Not many people are going to be picking up a PS2 when the 360 is only a hundred dollars more, but it made sense when the 360 was $200 more.

it definatly does. it's not that the Wii's success is because it's the cheapest, but it certainly wouldn't be where it's at now if it ran $400. do the people on that forum not realize how sales go up after price drops?

The price is definitely a factor, but the Wii is still outselling the 360 by double despite the fact that the Arcade unit is now cheaper.

The two comments above are true. I didnt mean that Wii sales were completely because of sales, but it is a powerful factor. It's not a direct correlation when it comes to sales and price, but it has enough effect to be a factor in which game console will outsell the other.

However, if you made a sucky game system and released it for $50 it would be the cheapest console on the market, however since no one seems to like it it wouldn't top the best sellers list.
