Well the year has come to an end. In your opinion what video game released this year was the best and why?
Im going to have to go with Fallout 3. Ive never been really into gaming but i just cant put this game down. The post-apocalyptic environment and graphics are unreal. Plus the gore is awesome :D

Probably fallout 3, although I'm not really enjoying.

Left 4 Dead.
The small amount I've played Left 4 Dead, I'd have to put my vote for it.
Fallout 3 was good.. not as good as 2 or 1.. and the ending was slightly stupid.

Left 4 Dead is probably the funnest zombie shooter ever.

I vote for that too. Epic conclusion to the best espionage game.

I have thoroughly enjoyed:
LittleBigPlannet - Just fun fun fun
Metal Gear Solid 4 - Epic
Wipeout HD (currently playing) - Stunning looks, stunning sound, challenging gameplay.
Burnout Paradise - Well supported, HUGE, lasted me hours, online play is superb, its very fun and it only cost me £16.99!
As for Fallout 3, its very good, but i'm not liking it as much as the above.
I think in terms of boxes checked; Burnout gets my vote.

Even though I agree, you still bitch more than my little sister.
Stalker Clear Sky is my vote; I fucking loved that game.

Can I fuck her? Seeing as we have so much in common we might just hit it off.

Nope.
edit: ok ok, 20 bucks, make it discrete.
Fallout is probably the most deserving that I've played. Left 4 Dead is a well-made game that deserves all the acclaim it gets, but it just has kind of a limited scope. It really does what it sets out to do well, which is provide a hell of a challenge and a good time with friends, but Fallout seems more deserving because of the epic design of the world, morality choices, more involving gameplay, etc.
And a statement like that really is always based on opinion, because some people probably find ways to make the L4D gameplay as involving as Fallout's. But hell, Fallout gets my vote.
I haven't played MGS4 yet.

I didn't really care for left 4 dead. Fallout 3 was pretty cool but I didn't like the ending. I am having a ball on GTA 4 multiplayer but I can see it getting tiresome pretty quick. The storyline was pretty good.
There really wasn't much worth playing in 2008 now that I think about it.

Fallout 3!
(games played:
Fallout3
COD5
GTA4
moha airborne (2007?)
crysis (2007?
assasins creed)
god damnit! all but one are sequels
I would have picked up the mirrors edge, but I've got exams coming up.
It's either LittleBigPlanet or Gears of War 2 for me personally.
Toss a coin.
For my taste the games that have given me most lulz are Saints Row 2 and LittleBigPlanet

Little Big Planet for me, but that's only of the games that I ahve played, which is hardly anything. I don't have very much money to spend on games. i'm about to buy L4D, so I could very well have another choice.

Idk, I'd probably say Fallout 3 although I was hardly thrilled with the lame story Bethesda created for the game. MGS 4 is up there too.

Fallout 3, games are shit these days.
Fallout 3 for me too. As others have said, it could have been better but for the size of the world etc. it is the most deserving. Left 4 Dead was good but just too limited to deserve GotY - I would never have given CS GotY for the same reason.

As previously said, Fallout 3.
The games I enjoyed most this year were
Fallout 3
Gears of War 2
Rock Band 2
I'd pick Fallout 3 of them, though.

Since everyone is voting for Fallout 3 I'll cast my vote for Tales Of Vesperia because of the nice long epic scope and the real time combat in a Jrpg worked fantastic (think star Ocean: till the end of time). Looking back on it though this year did kind of suck gaming wise though :).
Umm, Im going to have to say Left 4 Dead. Fun fun fun stuff there.
Lame, it's just the same reused Source stuff. Might have been impressive in 2005.

What the fuck? It's impressive in 2008 explain how it's the same old Source stuff? Also i know the graphics aren't the best but it's still pretty fucking fun.

Left 4 Dead is by far the most innovative of the blockbuster releases this year. There's no other game that does co-op half as well, and playing as the Infected is unlike anything in any other game on the market. GTA4, MGS4, Fallout 3, GoW2, SSB:B, MK:Wii, FC2, R2 and pretty much anything else you can think of released this year are just derivatives of previous entries in the series or other games on the market. Some of them may still be great, but I wouldn't call any of them innovative.
Just because the shooting mechanics in L4D feel similar to CS, doesn't mean the game plays anything like CS. There are definitely legitimate complaints to be made against L4D sure, there's a few bugs, some cheap strategies, and a dearth of content (but I trust Valve to keep supporting it like they have TF2), but saying it's just like all the other Source games is completely and totally retarded, and the game is just so fresh and fun that it rises above it's flaws to be one of the best gaming experiences to come along in some time.
