Two quick questions.

1. Do I have to use a linux OS for my PS3?

2. Could I then install things like open office on it?

If installing ubuntu, it cannot be version 8.04 (this version is incompatible). It must include the PS3 file in the iso, and it must be the alternate install for powerpc systems.

After linux is installed you can emulate windows xp, install games like quake3 arena, etc.

thanks. I'm assuming I can just go to the PS3 website for more help?

I've been meaning to install YellowDog on my PS3 ever since I got it in June. I suppose I've just been a little hesitant. I've got an 80 gig, but I'm down to 30. about how many does the OS use? is it very risky? would I want to get an external HDD first?

also, I've got a wireless keyboard and mouse that run through a single USB/Bluetooth reciever. I can't ever seem to get it to work. is the PS3 not compatible with these?

You can either allot 10GB to linux, or 10GB to the PS3 (has to be 10/70 or 70/10 for some reason). Either way you have to format the PS3 to do it, which means backing up everything to an external harddrive.

Many wireless keyboard/mouse use specialized drivers. Stick with a wired or wireless USB model for maximum compatibility.
