I first heard about the Raelian Movement while reading through the head lines.
I then saw an article about a mega-orgy, so I read it.
Their goal was to promote world peace by getting together some 250 people to masturbate or have sex for International Orgasm Day.
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3642845,00.html
The spokes man (Kobi Drori) makes a good point when he goes on to say:

"The purpose of the event was to try and bring world peace through mass orgasm, this by experiencing consensual sex and natural, uninterrupted pleasure. It was important to make love without feeling guilty or shy," he explained.

Drori protested the fact that nowadays the words "war," "violence" and "murder" have become more legitimate than "sex," "orgasm" and "pleasure."

"It should be the other way around. Several years ago an Iraqi boy whose limbs were amputated was shown on TV and everybody treated this as if it was okay, but when Janet Jackson exposed her breast during the Superbowl the American nation was appalled.
"We wanted to put into practice the saying 'make love, not war'."

Unfortunately this event was canceled.
But don’t worry, they plan to have another sexfest next year.

So what is it that these beings believe you may inquire.

“We don’t believe in demons, ghosts and gods.”
Their goal is simply to inform humanity with their scientific messages dealing with the origins of life on earth.

However, what they do believe is that all life on earth was created by advanced scientists from another world.

The creator of this religion encountered a UFO back in 1973 and was given the first of a series of messages, face to face, by one of these designers.
The astonishing revelations lie within the pages of this free book:

If it was canceled due to public pressure I don't see this happening next year either.

Dumb atheists, maybe.

"We wanted to put into practice the saying 'make love, not war'."

There should be more people who want that.

And who knows or really cares if they're right or wrong. I don't see why believing aliens had a hand in life on earth would be any more unreasonable then anything else.

There is nothing intelligent in making assumptions, about that which nothing is really known, and creating a religion around it.

Assuming we were created from an advanced species of scientists, is even more foolish than assuming it was God. Creationists at least, suggest God is eternal. When someone suggests to these folks, "who created these advanced scientists", what do they say then? God? Another advanced civilization?

Though I do appreciate the desire to make sexuality something that isn't shameful, I just think the way they are going about doing it, is about as retarded as their creationist assumption. If they wish to undo the oppressive nature religion forced upon us, such as sexual shame, I don't think the answer is to create a religion.

Assuming we were created from an advanced species of scientists, is even more foolish than assuming it was God.

From a logical perspective, it seems more reasonable to me.

The scientists from another world would be aliens, and the "best" of the bunch according to natural science and anyone who follows natural science.

Natural science seeks to create life through abiogensis experiments, how foolish is it that other natural scientists from other planets would endeavor for the same results or have even mastered it.

All species act foolishly sometimes, and with great power some people/species are guaranteed to be great fools.

Certainly if i was an atheist i would be going for this one because it seems more practical or "grounded in reality".

Any sufficiently advanced alien race would be indistinguishable from gods

and any sufficiently unsubstantiated belief is indistinguishable from religion

How would it be more practical or grounded in reality? Both have no evidence supporting them, and the "advance alien civilization" hypothesis still doesn't answer where they (i.e. the advance aliens) came from. It merely shifts the question of (abio)genesis from us to them.

How could anything not be ground in reality? Is there something separate from reality?

God=Metaphysical
Aliens= Physical.

Although there is more evidence for God than aliens.

We dont need to go into it but to say there is no evidence ( of any kind ) for God is a fallacy.

Aliens= Physical.

And who/what created the aliens? That was the crucial point, which you glossed over.

Bringing aliens into the equation doesn't do anything but shift the question from us (i.e. "Who/What created us? Was it a god or was it a natural process?") to them (i.e. "Who/What created the aliens that created us? Was it a god or was it a natural process?").

Same shit.

Show me the evidence then. Start a new thread if you want. Atheists in this forum have been waiting for evidence for years!

How the hell is that going to help anyone?

That's just an excuse to indulge in hedonism.
