i want to be infantry, and am considering the marines. can you pick an mos, or at least a general field(like 03xx) in your contract?

but seriously, i was talking to the recruiter and he said if the corp doesnt want me to be infantry and needs me to do something else, im going to do something else.

i.e i could be put in some sort of intelligence job because i can speak arabic.

Don't sign anything that has the word "open" anywhere on it.

And don't go into infantry if your feelings get hurt easily.

Being infantry is considered a PRIVILEDGE in the Corps. now, like that dude said NEVER sign a contract thats open. The only way you will be guaranteed a specific infantry MOS 0311-rifleman, 0331-machinegunner 0341 mortarman, 0351 assaultman 0352 tow gunner. is if you go reserves. Now, if you want to go active you will go 03xx, which means after boot camp when you check into School of Infantry to the Infantry Training Battalion, depending on your pft and cutting score you will be able to choose what specific Mos you want. However, If you fail or cant hack it in the humps you are automatically an 0311. dont know why but thats how it works. but like I said Infantry Is a Priviledge, never a choice.

Nope full for next quarter from what i heard. People join the marines to be infantry always the ones that files up its motor T they can't seem to fill or admin and supply. But they can grantee you a field (03xx) not a specific MOS like 0311 or 0351

So join whenever you get the job you want. Irregardless, if you are guaranteed an MOS, and such is the case, you'll probably just have to wait at receiving for your job training to start. Happened to about a dozen guys whenever I went to SOI.

Put it this way, don't have your name start anywhere from 'W' to 'Z'.

If you wan't infantry, you will get it. Even if you don't "get" it at first. Say you get thrown into an intel job, that means security clearances and shit like that. If you can't get the clearance, or they find some shit out about you when your already in boot camp, then you will get reclassed as infantry, artillery, or possibly combat engineer.

There were a few guys in my basic that went in as intel. then one day these clean cut looking civilians in expensive suits and carrying briefcases came to talk to the trainees that had to get a security clearance. Those who didn't get it got reclassed to either 11b or 13b.
