Okay, long story short, I need to disappear. I have about three grand and I need to leave for a few years. Does anyone have any tips about where I should go, where I can find work, what to bring, etc.? Anything would help, I'm just not really sure where to begin with this... Oh, and customs shouldn't be a problem, passport is in order, no drugs in my system, basically everything that would prevent me from leaving the country is in check.

I have absolutly no expirience or authority on travel or disapearing, but wouldn't a non-extradition, cheap thrid world country be an obvious option?

You need to disappear, but you don't have any problem getting out of the country? If you're talking "I want to get out and make sure my relatives can't' contact me anymore" then just move. If you're running from the law, depending on what you've done, just hopping the border might fix your problems or you might need a new identity. If you're running from the mob, good luck ...

Anyways, let's assume no maffiosi or authorities are coming to look for you. It's pretty easy, just move. Buy a backpack, sell all the stuff you can't fit in it and leave. Where? If you're a US citizen, I would pick some western place where they speak english or you speak the local language fluently. Work? Ads in the paper, job offices, headhunters ... people work everywhere, and in most western countries things are generally done the same way. Apply, get a job, work, earn money, get promoted/fired. Housing? If you want to save money, hire a room somewhere cheap. Just get out if you want out, dude, what's the problem?

You just don't know where to start? Start with the beginning. Why do you want to move? Who do you want to disappear from?

Once you're sure you really want to move, pick a country where they can't find you. Things to look at: Language, law, culture, food, standards of living.
You need to speak their language fluently.
You need to be able to move there legally, and you need to know what visa's etc. you need, contact their local embassy for that. If you're running from the law, check wether they will deport you back to the USA.
If you're a US citizen, pick a western country. If you're from china, pick an asian country. This just makes things a lot easier. Even tough there's a heap of difference between the US and the UK for example, the difference with India would be gigantic.
You need to make sure you can digest their food and drinking water. Most non-western country's have tap water which will make you sick because it's less clean. Real asian food couold very well make you sick if you have to eat it every day.
you don''t want to pick a third world coouontry, because you most likely don't have what it takes to be rich there and you sure as hell don't want to be poor there. No, being white is not enough.

Once you've picked a country, start to read up on it, what some good cities are, what some bad cities are. For example, New York is generally seen as a great city to be a foreigner in in the US, while a city like Los Angeles is a violent, explosive mix of racism and gangs (anybody remember the LA riots?). Not the kind of place you want to move to.

Also, generally speaking it's easier to adapt to a warmer climate than a colder climate. Moving from Alaska to England will be easy, moving from Florida to England will be more difficult, and from Florida to Sweden would be unadviseable unless you're sure you can handle the long, dark, cold winters.

Get a list of helpfull adresses: cheap hotels for the first few days, job offices, housing offices, local town hall etc.

Once you've figured that out, get your shit together. Get all the necessary visa's, birth certificates, international driver's license, whatever administration you need. If you're going to move officially, check at your town hall what administration you need to take care off. If you're going under the radar that isn't adviseable off course.

Buy a mid-size backpack or other bag you can carry all day comfortably, and get the clothes you will need in your new location. Get a good pair of walking shoes, you'll do a lot of walking. Take all the things you need when travelling: toiletry items, knife/multitool, flashlight (don't underestimate the importance of a good flashlight), blanket, raincoat, insect repellent ...

And then you can either choose to wait untill you see a good last-minute promotion or you just pay the full price for your plane ticket and you get out.

Good luck.

You head to NYC, LA or Chicago, simple as that. A lone white man who stays longer than a vacations worth time in a lil caribbean or south american country is likely to be remembered. Needle in a haystack, you pick the biggest haystack, (most populous city). Good luck.

i have no advice based on expierience, only that i would say i a realitivly well travveled.

a sutable destination could be in the moroccan capital marrekesh. i say this because everyone is friendly, a job (especilly being a foreigner) would be easy to pick up. english is pretty mch spoken everywhere, and if yo no french - you def be fine with languages.
probably be easy to find accomidation (there is a film what would reveal what life for a foreginer may be like in morroco, but i forget the name)
if you were chased actually into morocco - you could yet dissapear into the mountains for a bit ( every one in imlil was hospitable, but the rif area is where smuggalars hide)

and food is good, is not to extremly hot, you could have a good time whilst still keeping low key
