I've wondered the same thing myself. I'll drink a third of a bottle of rum in an hour and a half and not get sick. One time I drank a bunch of rum, then had 14 shots of Southern Comfort. I went and ate pancakes at an IHOP and still didn't get sick, and that's saying something because IHOP is full of diseased people (and diseased pancakes).

It's because you have a naturally higher tolerance to alcohol. That's great because you can drink a lot an not get sick, and crush all your friends in drinking contests.
It sucks because your far more at risk for becoming an alcoholic.
