Hi.

Do they wash the cranberries before turning them into juice? I ask because cranberries (or any fruit that does not require peeling before being made into juice, such as grapes, strawberries..etc) can potentially have residual fertilizers/chemicals, or even dirt on them, and it would be extremely gross, not to mention very bad for people's health, to ingest these things.

do u know how they harvest cranberries..?

they flood the fields, the ripe cranberries will then float to the top because they are filled with air chambers. they also go through a bounce test, they create a course for the cranberries to bounce through, those that don't reach the bottom are not quite ripe.


so i'd say yes, they literally go through tons of water...

Cranberries are harvested in the fall when the fruit takes on its distinctive deep red color. This is usually in late September or early October. To harvest cranberries, the beds are flooded with six to eight inches of water above the vines. A harvester is driven through the beds to remove the fruit from the vines. For the past 50 years, water reel type harvesters have been used. Harvested cranberries float in the water and can be corralled into a corner of the bed and conveyed or pumped from the bed. From the farm, cranberries are taken to receiving stations where they are cleaned, sorted, and stored prior to packaging or processing.

My grandmother and I make cranberry juice with our feet and sell it at a local organic newage soccer mom market. We have a good laugh every time.
