There is absolutely no "again" in any of this. The original shitstorm never left, its just many people decide to put their head in the sand and walk away from the idiocy. Here we go......11/15/08 from the words of Jeff Hunter himself...

I'll be posting a full account of who did what, and when, and how, pretty soon. I'm trying to give the culprit a chance to fess up and redeem himself first, but he's still pretending to be an innocent bystander.

Nobody made him put this post up, he wasn't forced at gunpoint to promise us whatever info. But promise he did....and now we all sit here reading about him prattling on about petty operational nuances of this place.

Nobody fuckin cares Jeff, especially since you are creating quite the recent history of LYING to everyone. Either fix your fucking website or GTFO. At the very least quit promising things to people and then never deliver......its irresponsible and lazy. Probably why the rest of the staff under you behaves in such a manner without doing anything around here, too.

You always complain about Zok and acidmelt and that usually has some reason behind it but why are you complaining about Jeff. He is not prattling, he is just informing the community why the site was down. While he did promise to post a full explanation of what happened he said why he is not doing it immediately. I'm sure that he has a good reason and it is not because he is lazy. There is also no history of lying, just one post and even that might not be a lie.

Despite being a mod and despite being a 'fan' of Jeffs, I have no problem with criticising him and there is a lot one could criticise...and I have.

BUT

People, you are being unfair.Obviously Jeff has very little 'totse time' at the moment. Probably for reasons of family, work and actually having a fucking life. The couple of hours he seems to get here a week he could easily spend just working through his inbox. Sorting out the damage the hacker did took him several weeks and still isn't quite finished as far as I can tell. Following the hacker back through the logs will take quite a while.

I can assure you that was not the password. I still have one of the passwords that went to the enigma account somewhere, although it's guaranteed not to be the current one. Just because I came back to the site after this happened but wasn't the enigma account a ghost account basically and what was it used for in the first place? I know many forums do this. Perhaps in case someone tries taking over another mod/admins account they can still gain access?

enigma was, and is, Jeff's backup account. The problem that let someone use it has been fixed now, I sincerely hope at least.

On Jeff's most recent visit here, and right after he messed up the configuration once again and made the site slow, he closed the Totse mail server down while he was at it. As a by-product of his further and demonstrated gross incompetence, at least we do not have to worry about any unauthorized account password resets, at least for the time being.

My apologies to the community in providing this teaser/link that ended up getting out and out deleted by the administrators. Of course it didn't break any Totse rules in the least.....as evidence to that fact is I haven't been infracted/banned because of it. Nope, it was just your usual atypical day at the New Era Totse.....*whoosh* shit disappears on a whim and a prayer. :)

The good news is that thread didn't really need a long shelf-life any how.......as long as it got past a 10 minute or so window, the message got out to any and all that needed or desired it. Considering it did have about a 4 hour play, and I already got responses from it......obviously word has or will spread around about its contents.

He was/is prattling......because for him STILL not living up to his talks of..."I'll get back to you soon on what happened" and droning about about petty operational semantics is just plain silly. Kinda like the State promising an execution, and while everyone is waiting around tapping their feet expecting some carnal vanquishing.....the warden decides to bless us with a rant about the mechanisms and innerworkings of handcuffs. Ummmmmm, ok????

And really dude, just how much seriousness could you take from this statement?

I'm trying to give the culprit a chance to fess up and redeem himself first

That is the kind of thing you would try while rooting out who put the tacks on the 5th grade teacher's chair. But hey...it IS a crazy world and this being Totse, people sat back and wondered just what the fuck was going on. And then a couple days go by, and don't those words start to appear even sillier? A week later? Several weeks later? Now over a month and a half?

You tell me InvisibleMode, when you read those words on 10/15/08......if someone could go to you and say ***Psssst***** it will be 2009 and Jeff still won't comment about the hacker.......would you still describe all of this as being on the up and up? You think we are REALLY getting the truth from Jeff?

Not to mention his whole take seems to go in complete conflict to the bread crumbs that Jack is leaving about all of this. Jack still has HIS moderator tag,nor is anyone above him coming to the table to correct him........ so it sure as fuck ain't like Jeff is waiting on Jack to "confess his sins".

Multiple months now and the ONLY thing we have to go on is Jack's bread crumb trail to Hansel and Gretel's house....and the witch ain't there, the kids ain't in the oven, and the house ain't made out of gumdrops either.

Tell me, exactly what the fuck HAS Jeff been truthful about?

Lets get some facts straight shall we? The house was made out of Lebkuchen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebkuchen), gumdrops are a modern american bastardisation of the original.

We must be accurate in such matters.

Yes I am still a mod, I assume that Jeff has decided that I was as much sinned against as sinful....because make no mistake, most of what *cough* evidence *cough* there is points squarely to me.

Yes, the fact that it has been one and a half months since Jeff's announcement has been disappointing. I thought it would all be sorted out by now instead of staying mysterious for no good reason. I still take Jeff's statement seriously because it seems like something he would do just out of principle, the same way he demoded the hacker mods out of principle. Jeff has been truthful about every other announcement he has made and he never really specified a time except the word "soon". I don't think Jeff has a reason to lie to the community. If he made a mistake he could easily say so and everything would be fine. So I still expect that Jeff will provide a full explanation.

Alexa reports that 79% of sites are faster than Totse, with a load time of 4.2 seconds. In the past three months, Totse has had a Global Internet Visitor increase of 7%, and a traffic ranking increase of 1,080 rankings, however, unique page views are down by 22%. These numbers draw a grim picture for us. Persons are coming to Totse, but not finding anything much of interest, and may actually be dissatisfied with its performance.

That is EXACTLY what those numbers tell, and saying its grim is putting it lightly. Most interesting about that 7% increase is that isn't necessarily a "Totse" matter...so much as its a behavorial matter of the surfing habits/abilities of the rest of the world. Meaning if some ISP in Mozambique decided to finally allow access to this and other similar websites. Koonta Kintay decides to Google "bomb making"......wham, right here to the text files.

So now we have a HIGHER customer base, but sales are still decreasing. :( WTG Totse Senior Staff......keep on keepin on what you do best....

If in fact the picture painted by both Spectral and Daguru about the site's traffic is correct, which is highly possible, what can be done to increase the flow of users to the site. Obviously, getting the load times back to normal would be great.

But then, I'm fairly certain we delve into the realm of the administration, an argument I wish I'd rather not get tainted by so early, but am eager to find out more about.

Other than that, increased user flow would be nice, but do we really want this site to be on the scale of something the likes of 4chan? With the registrars open, there has been a renewed flow of users, but what of what sorts?

Obviously, I can't generalize, me being part of that flow, but I had lurked the site for months prior to registration opening. Then, when I decided to register, the email server was closed so I waited even longer. Throughout those times, I remember that I'd gag of laughter at threads in SG, while others were genuinely interesting. The other forums were also homes to lively discussion.

Now, I can tell you that it seems that SG creeps closer and closer to becoming some sick monster-child of HB and 4chan. Obviously, this is not the administration's fault (Or is it *darts eyes like maniac*), but rather a result of new users who can't be both logical and humorous. They oaf around, instead.

This site is in in a bit of the pits, but not all is bad. I can tell you that discussion in forums like Politics, My God, and the Humanities are as lively as ever, but a larger flow of users would certainly add livelihood to the debates. Problem is, some new users have the belief that this is a place for the lulz, and act like they have shit for brains.

I miss the days when TOTSE was like the wild west... there weren't many rules, trolls were rampant, and if someone called you out, you didn't go run to the mods/admins, you just came back with guns blazing and then the war was ON!

I also miss the truly lulzy posts... HTS-Noob comes to mind almost immediatly... but there were others... like tr1p... who while super gay gave this place some flavor.

Totse with its current regime of mods kind of made this place bland and sterile. Well comparitively to about 3 or 4 years ago (i know, my join date says I'm newer than that, but I've been here since 2000-2001)

Anyone remember back when Bombshock.com and Totse were at war defacing each others websites? THOSE were the golden days of Totse. Totse will never again be that place of "I can find ANYTHING about ANYTHING I want if I dig deep enough"... now its just "STFU AND USE GOOGLE NOOB!"

If the above were the case, then there is no need for totse, because google can answer all of our questions, thus eliminating the need for forum interaction... because hey, we can just STFU and google it ourselves.

Life was better before the moderators had this much power. Back when they only locked the threads that NEEDED to be locked (like Goatse and browser-crashing links.)

Also, the totse IRC channel is a joke... bunch of retards spamming and posting youtube links to shit that no one cares about. The mods in there are a joke too... kick for stupid things like ONE LINE OF ALL CAPS (sorry meta, can't kick me here you dick...), but they leave the asshole alone who pings everyones names on a constant basis, or the constant youtube spammers, or the people who are just there to aggrivate everyone else.

I think the current mods are way too comfortable with their positions here, and the mods need to be turned over on a more regular basis, so as to keep things fresh around here. I'd say every 6 months or so, we should rework the mod table and give some new blood a chance to mod, if they suck, unmod them and try someone else.
