View Full Version : high school interest
I want to become a lawyer. I'm still in high school so obviously I have a rather long way to go yet but I have a few questions:
1) what are some good majors to major in to help gain entrance to law school? like what do they look for
2) like what kind of books should i be reading? what topics should i know, if i want to become part of the American legal system? should i know history and study of culture? enlighten me haha..
2) what are the different specializations within law school? Like what goes on at law school?
thanks!! im curious

History of the Constitution classes.
You should also decide what state you want to practice in and learn it's laws, history, etc.
Political Science helps too...

I'm currently a political science major enrolled in pre-law courses so...
Majors mean close to nothing when entering law school. You will want to pick a major that you will excel in, whether it's biology, organic chemistry, finance, political science, etc. A high gpa is expected when applying to law schools, and a high LSAT score is what will set you apart from the rest. Most universities have a pre-law program with special advisors and classes to help you do good on your LSAT. Pre-law is not a major. As a pre-law student you can expect to take classes that focus on logic, analytical writing, critical thinking, philosophy, politics, etc. Some of these classes will satisfy your gen ed requirements / major requirements and others will just help you on your LSATS.
Most people who go to law school get their JD (law degree). With a JD you can practice any law you would like, however you are going to want to think hard about what field you want to get into.
Idk what year of high school you're in but classes that helped me in high school were
- Business law
- Latin
- Computer science
- Calculus
- Statistics
- Economics
- American politics
im currently a junior in high school
I've taken AP Psychology, Russian History, AP U.S. Government, AP French Literature and am currently enrolled in a Law class.
Next year I think I'll take a Modern World class, AP Micro and Macroeconomics and I'll have an internship (probably) with the IRS.

I've taken all those classes except Russian history and AP french literature. Take as many AP's as you can before leaving for university. I took a bunch in high school and then finished my gen ed's at a community college over the summer and cut off just about an entire year.
