I've been researching how to hack wireless networks for over a year now. In short, I'm asking for help finding a program that works with vista AND supports the broadcom 802.11 wireless card. This site is the 'last limb' so to speak. if you think you can help me then please post something

There are several forms of encryption, each one has several different methods to crack.

For example, cracking WEP is different to cracking WPA. There will also be different approaches depending on if there are any clients connected.

That being said, assuming you want to crack a WEP encrypted network, good range, with a client connected. It will take less than 5 minutes.

Firstly get familiar with 'Backtrack'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BackTrack

For BT help:
http://forums.remote-exploit.org/forumdisplay.php?f=35

Download a program called 'uNetBootin'
http://sourceforge.net/projects/unetbootin/

uNetBootin is designed to simplify the process of creating a bootable USB.

Once you run uNetBootin, under 'Distro', select "Backtrack 3".

Then make sure the device selected is your USB, (at least a 2gb stick). And let the program work away.

Once it's done, restart your laptop, making sure to set the USB as the primary boot device. Then BT will load.

Have a play around, get used to the terminal. Have a read about basic commands.

Once you've got your bearings, try going through guides like this:

You aren't going to be able to find anything that works under Vista. Your only option is to install GNU/Linux (http://gnewsense.org) or use a LiveCD as mentioned above.

If you choose a USB wifi device, you can install XP or GNU/Linux into a virtual machine (under VMWare -- or I think VirtualBox's non-GPL version works also) and connect the USB device to the VM. Then you can crack from within the VM, without having to deal with Vista's potential device driver and software incompatibilities.

Well, it looks as if I'm gonna have to use A live cd program, which intrestingly brings us to my next problem; I can't get any iso files to burn properly. (but that's an issue for T&T) I'll still download backtrack though. Hell, I'll get it burned one way or another. By the way, my main intrest is wep, my computer is not xp compatable, and my wireless card does not seem to work with linux. (well, atleast ubuntu 8.10) Wargsm, you've been a help to me by posting the links, so thanks for that. Now, over to T&T.

You can use software called "Commview for Wifi" to use it on Vista to hack the wireless network...
You can download the drivers and software from the site:

Download the driver and update, download commview for wifi and collect packets, download airocrack and decrypt the key.. thats it..... good luck

I didn't say LiveCD, I linked to a program that will automatically create a bootable pen drive for you (uNetBootin). All you have to do is stick the pen drive into your machine, select BT3, and it will do everything for you.
