Aha, found where he fucked up. Sea water is salt water, the frozen ice has fresh water, so when the ice melts the densities won't be the same, so the sea level will change. Suck it, bitch.

Oh, and global warming isn't just about the melting of the ice caps. It's about carbon dioxide absorbing radiation and converting it to heat, which it very fucking clearly does.

Once greenland melts, the water level will go up just from that... It's the natural fluctuation of the earth's temperature. It's going to start going back to normal soon enough, and when it does people will think an ice age is coming.

The kid isn't as dumb as you might think. If all the water/ice was fresh water, then floating ice would NOT raise the water level when it melts (it gets more dense, hence takes up less volume, and if you use archimedes' principle it works out to no change in the water level surprisingly enough). However, the kid's wrong because the ice has quite a bit of fresh water while the ocean is salt water, so and the density of saltwater ≠ the density of fresh water, so the water level will not stay the same when the ice melts.

And to ILTST4, it is a fact that carbon dioxide absorbs radiation that normally passes through the atmosphere, and due to the relative scarcity of CO2 in the atmosphere even a "small" change in the amount of CO2 will have a dramatic effect on the atmosphere's absorption of said radiation. When that radiation is absorbed, it's often re-emitted in all directions, so a shitload of it comes back down to earth and heats shit up.
