i've read here before that magnetic strips can mess up cds. i've stolen alot of cds from walmart and fye. the only ones that have magnetic strips on them, were either on the outside, or like the cd was in a plastic case that had a magnetic strip in it (only at fye).

but lately i've been noticing walmart has magnetic strips on EVERYTHING. are cds still safe? would they ever put them inside of the case?

If the CDs are under 9 bucks it is probably safe. I just stole a few CDs; Lil Wayne, Kanye, and Tokio Hotel(LOL). Only one that didnt have the magnetic tag was Tokio Hotel. That CD costs 8 dollars. If i were you id just take the disc out in the bathroom or something.

Yeah it's usually best to just take the disc out...I'm not sure about walmart's cds BUT Target doesn't have some of their cds tagged. I'm not sure which ones but I took a couple $12-$13 cds, just concealed them without worrying about security tags and left. No alarm at the door sensors or anything.

Target here is heavily monitered. I do not reccommend stealing CD's from Kmart unless you are looking forward to getting caught.

NO! Magnetic strips, or strong magnets do not effect the quality of a CD/DVD.

CD's save data in a Binary code using the optical surface.
Reflective-open (1)
Non-reflective (0)
As the CD stores the files using the optical surface, a strong magnet will not effect the reflection.

Hard drives can get screwed up by strong magnets though, ast they use a magnetic field to store data.

There are people in Wal-Mart who get paid to walk around in regular clothes just to watch shoplifters. I'd be really careful about jacking anything from the electronics dept. from there just because that's the most highly monitored area in the store.

I know it's nice to have a physical copy of media, but damn if it's too much trouble to go through kifing it. Just download whatever you want. If you want cds/dvds go to borders, and barnes & noble; safe yourself the trouble of getting caught.

If you're gonna steal CDs, steal blank ones and get a Demonoid account.

i just needed store credit, and something small and safe to steal. i went to automotive and stole abunch of $10 lights instead.

but what cds are you taking that have magnetic strips in them? i've never seen one actually inside of the cd case before. the only time i've seen them at all is at fye and they are always visable from the outside.

i dont download songs because they take up more room on my mp3 player. a song off of a cd takes up like 2mb while one downloaded could take up 6.

That's probably because you rip them at shitty quality.

Also, get a better MP3 player with more space so you don't have to listen to your music at shitty quality.
