i have hit 'R' and nothing has happened, i tried going into safe mode and nada. is there anything i can do and if not is there a way to get my files off of my comp cuz i have a lot of really important stuff on there

Go through the windows setup until it says something about you already have windows, do you want to try and repair. Hit yes and let it do it's magic. You won't lose any files.

I got caught on that one a couple times too, that actually takes you to the recovery console. Its stupid that they bury the real repair function in the steps for a normal install.
