I was pretty much disappointed with Fable 2 but am in no way surprised. When I first heard of the first Fable I got overly excited not knowing how the Peter Molyneux likes to embellish on his games. So, for fable 2, I definitely hoped it'd be a different story but wasn't surprised when I played it and got Fable .5 rather than 1.5.
As far as Fable 1 was concerned, it did have a few things going for it even if it was a very lackluster game. The controls were tight and the general game system worked well. It was a sort of Arcade RPG that I played through multiple times [So I could beat it as Good and Evil and just basically try to do/get everything I could] and (IMO) actually ended up alright for what it was..this coming from an oldschool gamer that loves a good RPG over anything else. It damn sure wasn't excellent but it also wasn't total crap.
As far as Fable 2 is concerned...it pretty much is. I have a high level character that I made look as stupid as possible and I'll occasionally go kill a civilian or two but this game isn't much of anything.
The dog is worthless. Oh boy, a companion that follows you and points you towards crappy treasure or shows you where you can dig up hundreds of buried pies and crap ass potions. The only change/addition I like is the new method of setting up the characters magic and I do like the guns. Everything else is a huge disappointment.
Fable II was a great game, it was just WAAAAAAY too short.
And that's really all I can say about it. If it were two to three times longer I wouldn't have anything bad to say about it.

I loved Fable 2. it all comes down to how to expected the game to be, i had low hopes, and it pleased me. So i turned out loving it.

I was a huge fan of the first game and had played it like...dozens of times, and I didn't find that the playability and nice user-interface was carried over well into the sequel. The game relies heavily on 'expressions,' but you weren't able to assign them to the d-pad as in the previous game, and I wasn't impressed by the lack of multiplayer options. However I enjoyed the darker, more adult storyline, but I found that the defining feature of the game is the number of side quests/additional pursuits that exist outside of the plot that allow the gameplay to be extremely multi-faceted. It really improves the re-play value of a game when every time you play it you can find a different experience.
Overall, I really enjoyed it at first, and played through several times, and was impressed by the size of the environments, the darker plot, and the huge expansion on options like weapons, clothing, real-estate, morality, purity, and all the other new doodads, however I found the controls to be clumsy, the lack of mini-map to be frustrating in such huge environments, and the menu to be extremely stupid and poorly executed.

I've been playing it for a few days and it's already really repetitive, and gets on my nerves after an hour or so.
The dog needs to shut up barking at every piece of shit he sniffs out, and the villagers need to shut up altogether. There's no freedom in the game what so ever, you leave a village and walk a few yards up the road and then you're instantly transported to the next village or town. There needs to be more enemies to fight too, it's boring having to do shitty side quests just to fight some pathetic flying beetles that die in one hit.

I came to this game knowing little about it or its predecessor. I hadn't even really heard anything from that tit Peter Molyneux, who seams to still be riding the success of the original Sims game (without any of the shitty expansions, barring Livin' it Up of course).
All that I knew was that is was an RPG of sorts that wasn't particularly long or difficult. So, as you can imagine, my expectations weren't particularly high.
Then I played it. I have to say that, without Molyneux's lies and hype, there's a surprisingly pleasant game here. It's not without its faults, but then what is?
It's open enough for mild exploration.
It's difficulty is easy enough that you feel powerful like Albion's heralded hero should, but not so easy that it isn't a challenge.
The dog is useful, and fully self reliant, thus, not a burden.
The character interaction derives influence from the Sims (not surprising), which is simplistic and intuitive.
The art style is appropriately fairy-tale-esque, with a hint of Disney.
It's nice to hear mock-English accents in video games!
The combat is fun and simple - swords and axes make pleasingly brutal impact sounds and effects, the guns and crossbows become more and more fun to use as you increase in level, and the magic is varied and powerful.
The good-evil system works nicely, dynamically effecting your character's physical appearance depending on your choices.
All of the locations feel alive, from Albion's bustling urban centers, right down to the grass and flowers that brush away from your character as he/she walks through them.
The music score is truly beautiful and well suited to the colorful and vibrant world of the fabled Albion.
... to name a few pros.
I have barely scratched the surface with things you can do in this game. I haven't even brought a house yet (brought businesses instead), and have yet to get married - my guess is that I'm 1/3 through the main quest.
Fable 2 has a wide variety of features that it manages to pull off with equal precision and detail; from the ability to manipulate a town's economy, to the chance at marrying practically anyone who takes your fancy, Fable 2 has something for everyone.
For a more in-depth review read http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/fable-ii-review. I chose to read this after purchasing the game - risky, I know - but I agree with most of what is addressed here.
Obviously, if you've been promised things that aren't in the final game you're going to be disappointed. With Fable 2, however, things have kind of worked in reverse for me - when it was released all I heard was negative criticism online from the fans of the first game; this left me not expecting much, but, actually, playing it now I'm quite happy with my purchase. Especially since I got it for £25 :D.
I made up my mind that I wasn't going to like it when it came out. Someone got me it for christmas and I was pleasantly surprised - having no expectations. Sure it will get boring after a while, all games do eventually but I've already played for at least 30hrs and not close to finishing and I will probably replay as evil.

Yes, actually.
It's more interactive than text-based drop-down-menus and it's nice to see one of the more functional aspects of the Sims making its way over into an (action)RPG.
It's not perfect, and certainly not to everyone's tastes, but it is easy to use and it does work. I also like the arcadey timed reactions you have to perform to get a greater response from those you talk to; they work to further each gesture's interactivity.

Yeah it was pretty fucking good, but they ruined such a good game. Yeah it was way to short but it's fun doing all the extra quests like jumping down the well near Brightwood Tower and yeah.

Yeah excactly i fucking hated how half the items u find in chests are just shitty potions and useless items, it's the same with shit you dig up its all useless. Fable 1 was good in that you found weapons and augments in chests which was sweet. Yeah there was a few quests to find good weapons and i found them fun while they lasted but it's just way too short.

I just keep on doing the Crucible over and over at the moment. Has anyone got 8 perfect rounds in there yet? I've done 6 with ease, but I can't do the round where the bandits are all round the edge of the arena shooting at you fast enough.

Make sure you've maxed out your shooting level - so you can target specific body parts - then just keep aiming for the head.
For all of the other rounds - excluding the troll at the end - use this strategy:
* cast 3rd level Time Control
* cast 5th level Inferno or Shock
* repeat
That's the easiest way of doing it, anyway. I try to mix things up a bit now, though; try doing it with only your melee weapons (excluding the troll of course).

I've beat it now with 8 perfect rounds. The hardest one is the troll. The axe you get is up to much, my cleaver is better.
