i was wondering what the cost of the machinery to make man made diamonds would be.
it seems like the machine would be a good investment although i havnt looked into it much.
i posted here because its about a machine, and i didnt know where else to post

alot. there is alot of force used to compress carbon into that allotrope. you wouldnt be able to easily afford it.
the companies that make man made diamonds make them for cutting blades. i think they are not as clear/pretty

I'm pretty sure that's true. In any case IIRC they are not worth as much as ordinary diamonds.

Stop being assholes and tell him how all of us make our money. You see, we're not really 'gearheads' because we run an underground home-kept diamond pressing ring, and we all sell them. We try to keep it a secret because its such a lucrative business. Its hard not to get rich doing it. For instance, you might have heard of us talking about 'mopars', that's code for small shitty diamonds, or 'domestics' worthless diamonds. So yes, it's a great venture. I press my own diamonds at home. All you need is a floorjack and a microwave since heat + pressure = diamond.

Phew, am I glad you told him the slightly incorrect version or what! If he found out 'Mopar' is code for the prettiest and most sought after grade, and 'Volkswagen' for the diamonds that failed altogether we'd be royally screwed. Everyone would start a secret underground diamond pressing ring and dilute the market, and it'd flip uspide down! We'd have Mopars coming out our ears, and Volkswagens would actually become somewhat exclusive. Next thing you'd have Volkswagen owners turning up their noses thinking they've actually got the superior stones. Imagine that!
Luckily we also still make a lot of money off the shitty diamonds by either calling them 'Porsche' and hocking them to rich idiots, or selling them through our turd-dealer, Barret-Jackson.

Wut?
Can't quite work out what that is.
And yeah, industrial diamonds don't look all shiny and nice like the ones you dig out the ground. They're typically very small crystals mixed with cobalt and sintered onto the cutting edge of the tool.

Those are industrial diamonds.
They have lab grown ones that besides being laser marked to suggest so, are indistinguishable from ground based diamonds.

To get some idea of how feasible your idea is... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_diamond
And, really, Volkswagen owners have no stones at all...

Yeee boi. Saw a white one of these a few weeks ago. We lost :(
And basically;
Microwave
Hydrogen gas
Carbon plasma
Or something along those lines.
They can also make super-tiny diamonds with explosives.
