For:
x Skin cancer will plumit.
x Green house gases will decrement. Think, while we sleep in the day all of the energy we use for the night will be gather by solar panels.
x The planet is warming up. Eventually humans will all become nocturnal to avoid the heat of the day. I'd say that it's pretty hot at the moment. Become nocturnal - avoid the heat.
x There will be less chance of being robbed because everyone will be awake at night and if a robber is smart he will use the shadows.
x The sky will be more interesting.
x Sun glasses will become a redundent fashion statement (although they may make "moon glasses").
x Sun screen will become redundent as well. I have read that you can still be burnt at night though... so once again they may have to make "moon screen" (fuck that sounds cool).
x People would feel safer walking the streets at night.

Against:
x One could equally argue that because all of our activities take place at night that we would actually use MORE energy and thus generate MORE green house gasses.
x The sky being more interesting is subjective and questionable.
x There might be more car accidents.
x A lot of activities that would have been simple in the day would now become complicated. For example if you wanted to go surfing then the entire beach would have to be illuminated. I guess solar panels will have to become more wide spread to better take advantage of the day.
x It's questionable whether humans can adapt well to a nocturnal life style. I'm sure there is a vast array of research on this question though.

Pick a side and post, I am for, though I cannot force Australians to miraculously become nocturnal and start a revolution so I will have to buy some ear muffs. I'm glad I don't have a job. Perhaps I can find a way to setup my entire life around a nocturnal schedual. I am quite sure this is the right move for the modern man and woman.

This. Although we don't get nearly enough sun as I'd like.

I'm nocturnal whenever I don't have work within a 2 day radius.

Against
A lot more energy will be used for lighting
More people will become vitamin D deficient

I might become semi-nocturnal, but there is still heaps of shit I enjoy doing during the day.

I shall argue for crepuscularity.

I'm all for it.
To the poster who mentioned a Vitamin D deficiency, we could just take supplements. And about the lighting... We would be using things like air conditioners a lot less, so surely it wouldn't be much of a change.

I'd imagine that if we became nocturnal the earth would end up looking like Corosaunt (sp?) at night. Which would be fucking cool.

(No one noticed how I pawned of New Years bull shit to get my stupid ideas read, lul.)

I know right, it would look so futuristic.

We should all move to one continent and build a supercity like Coruscant. I suggest Africa, where we kill all of the natives and or make them slaves to farm food for the rest of us.

What will they do when black people rule the night? They have an advantage over us in one sense.

This is a good idea. At first glance you'd think it would require more lighting and therefore more power, but I don't think so.

All the places I've worked in required lights to be on during the day anyway. Office buildings stay lit up at night even when there's nobody in them. They don't need their lights on during the day unless there are people working in them. And because it's cooler at night, air conditioner use would decrease in every sector except residential.

This is a good idea. At first glance you'd think it would require more lighting and therefore more power, but I don't think so.

The government would have to get involved with subsidizing solar panels for people, which isn't a solution but it would cut the general home energy in half.

The light from my TV, laptop and desktop is sufficient lighting for my place anyway.

I was nocturnal during the summer of 2007. Good times.

For:

This actually makes a lot of sense.

x There will be less chance of being robbed because everyone will be awake at night .

Lol! Funny and cute.

x Sun screen will become redundent as well. I have read that you can still be burnt at night though... so once again they may have to make "moon screen" (fuck that sounds cool).

After much rolling on the ground I quietly made a note of OP's user name.

Also, I just wish to add that yes, you can get burnt at night, because the moon reflects the sun's rays.

Against:
x One could equally argue that because all of our activities take place at night that we would actually use MORE energy and thus generate MORE green house gasses.

I believe you are right.

x The sky being more interesting is subjective

A true statement.

x There might be more car accidents.

Most likely. Although it really depends on if there will be sufficient lighting.

x It's questionable whether humans can adapt well to a nocturnal life style.

Vampires lead a nocturnal life style, I believe?

Hmm. It's really hard for me to really pick one and stick with it. I love daytime just much as I love nighttime. Probably daytime I guess, cause I am old school like that
