Ok... So I'm trying to set up a slave drive to try and recover some files and I cant figure out which end you connect the slave to. The guide I am reading says to connect the drive you are trying to recover (slave drive) to the end of the IDE cable and the drive that was originally in the machine (master drive) in the middle of the cable. But the IDE cable says to do the opposite so now I'm very confused. Both are Western Digital hard drives and both are IDE. So T&T which drive goes where? Thanks in advance for the help and sorry if I didn't explain it well.

Heres a pic showing the confusing IDE cable. http://img301.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pict0022at8.jpg And here is the guide I am reading http://www.dtidata.com/resourcecenter/2007/04/23/how-to-slave-hard-drive/.

tl;dr Which end of the IDE cable do I attach the slave drive to?

Edit: Oh and the machine is a Dell if it matters...

Connect the hard drive master to the cable as the cable reads - at the end and the slave to the middle.

This. The cable is right.
