Mind you, he had a completely retarded password, but still, he's pretty pissed off since he had so many games on there. Anyway, this is what happened. One day he went and tried to log in, and it gave him the typical bad password/username dialog over and over again. He checked his email and noticed that he had 2 emails at exactly 1:00 am that said that his email and password had been changed. No one had been logged on to the account until yesterday, when I was playing Oblivion with my girlfriend Steam came up and said that he signed on. I tried talking to him and he replied a few times but never told me how he acquired the account. Later he changed his name to "Haxor" and made his Steam user profile private.

Is there any way we can get this back? I told him that he should email Steam support as much as he can and make a thread in the support forums on the issue. Does anyone know of any illicit brute force or hacking programs I could use to re-hack the account? I'm pretty sure the guy just guessed the password, but still, my brother had like $60 worth of games on there.

That's it.....

Why even worry, its sixty bucks. Email Steam, they should be able to get it back for you, if they don't there isn't much you can do.

Yeah well it could be worse, but it's still a good bit of money for him, especially since most of the games he got were on sale at the time. It's his fault for being a dumbass though and making a password someone could guess in 10 seconds...

It was pretty funny to watch him go through Counter Strike withdrawl.

It may hurt him now, but this is for the best.

Well, if you won't feel like an asshole about it, go on Counter Strike and befriend gullible 13 year olds that probably have weak passwords. My brother's password was part of his Steam ID, to give you an idea...

Steam doesn't seem to be doing anything about it, but then, he only sent one email. If I were him, I'd be bitching Steam support out pretty bad, sending emails every day or so, just being a general annoyance. It kinda sucks not being able to dish out the usual brotherly pwnage anymore though... teehee.

Actually he used to spend so much time on CS he would usually pwn me pretty bad when we played...

Whoever hacked the account got free Counter Strike: Source, HL2: Ep1, HL1, HL2: Lost Coast, HL2: DeathMatch, and Garry's Mod, from what I remember.

Well if he has a hard copy of any of the games with a CD key it is easy as you just send them proof you actually have the physical copy. If he bought them all on steam then I think if you have the credit card account info then it should be easier also.

No, he bought them all on Steam. He gave up and just made a new account and re-bought CS:S and Garry's Mod, and used the nVidia promo to get Lost Coast and HL2: Deathmatch for free. Now he's talking on Ventrilo chat or some shit with his faggy CS clan which probably jacked his account in the first place. Seriously that gets annoying after a while.

Good news that it's easy to retrieve an account if you buy retail copies of games, I have hard copies of Orange Box and Left 4 Dead.

Yeah... we did that and the email and password was changed, but he's still stupid because I tried to help him and he registered another Steam account with his original email, so when I put in the info for the original email he used for his own account, Steam responded with his new account. So I was like, okay I give up, if you want your account back, figure it out yourself. I tried to be nice...

Someone got away with a bunch of games for free.
