Because New Years just passed and I spent most of the night mixing my favorite drink (seven & seven), I wanted to know some more easy drink recipes other totseans like. Roofie-rum-n-coke's are my specialty.

Well since you mix highballs, try the others: Gin/Vodka & Tonic/Soda being two examples. Depends what you like though? Cocktails can be sweet, bitter, strong, weak, fruity, boozy, etc. These are all pretty easy and one of them ought to be likeable; they're also classics. If you're not sure, order one at a GOOD bar -- an old one in a nice hotel in a ritzy area. If you see someone muddle orange into the Old Fashioned, run. When making them yourself, look at some recipes, choose one, and follow it carefully. Emphasis: read carefully. For example, without checking a proper source, you probably have no idea how to properly prepare the Caipirinha.

For the classics:
Martini:
3:1 Gin & Dry (aka white, aka french as I recall) Vermouth, served with an olive. Substitute Vodka for a Vodka martini. Add an onion in place of an olive and it's a gibson.

Old fashioned:
Mix a sugar cube with just enough water to dissolve it, add rye or scotch whisky, and two good dashes of angostura bitters. Some add some soda-water, others call this sacrilege.

Manhattan:
5:2 rye and sweet (aka red, aka italian) vermouth, dash angostura bitters. Both this and the Old Fashioned are stirred and often take a maraschino cherry garnish.

Moscow Mule:
Vodka with lime-juice and ginger-beer.

Gimlet: Vodka & Rose's Lime.

Caipirinha: Half a lime, brown sugar and cachaca (Brazilian rum-like spirit: made from cane juice, whereas rum is made from the molasses left behind after said juice is processed).

I've had all of these, but there's thousands out there. As you might guess, I'm not big on the sweet cocktails, so if that's your thing ask around. Once you better know what predominant style/flavours you like, you can probably get more help/ideas.

The vodka and orange, commonly called a "screwdriver," is quite classic and easy to mix. Choose your vodka, choose your orange juice (definitely not Sunny D or any other corn syrup sweetened garbage) and mix to a proportion you enjoy.

The Manhattan is by far my favourite. Quite partial to the odd Moscow Mule.

Toothless, buddy, you named two of my favorites...

I'm still a fan of an extra dry martini...that means gin, all you James Bond wannabes...

Take your favorite shaker, add ice, and pour in a shot of dry vermouth. Shake or stir briefly, and pour it out. Add a nice portion of good gin (Beefeater is my favorite, but your mileage may vary), shake/stir until cold, and strain into a chilled martini stem.

Dry. Very dry. Tastes of gin with a little hint of vermouth. Great to wet the appetite before a good dinner, or great if you only plan to have one or two.

Here are some more favourites of mine:

White Russian: Vodka, coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlúa or Tia Maria), and cream served in an old-fashioned glass with ice. Milk is often used as a substitute for cream.

Black Russian: Vodka and coffee liqueur (usually two parts vodka to one part coffee liqueur). Serve ovwer cubed or cracked ice. Can be made into a tall drink by adding cola.

Tom Collins: Ice cubes, dry gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup, soda water, slice of lemon, colored cherry. Place ice in large glass. Add gin, lemon juice and syrup. Top up with soda water and stir well. Serve with lemon slice and cherry.

Harvey Wallbanger: Vodka, Galliano, and orange juice.

Haven't had a good Collins in a long time.

There is a thundering herd of simple (two-part) drinks that are so simple they don't have a name.

Start with a tumbler full of ice.

Put a shot of your favorite liquor in there.

Fill the glass the rest of the way with whatever non-alcoholic concoction (juice, soda, etc.) you have available.

This is the gin-and-tonic, rum-and-coke pattern. My favorite is brandy and soda.

Some of these have earned names, such as screwdriver, but it's okay to refer to them by their ingredients.

Glad some people still drink the classics. And yes, a proper martini is gin. Also good: Pimm's #1 & Ginger Ale or 7 Up, plus lime. The "Pimm's Cup." Delicious, if you like gin and a bit of the bittersweet.

I'm a big fan of the 2 part drinks.
My three favorite in no particular order:
-blackhaus and cranberry
-gin and tonic
-rum and coke

Mojitos are always good. All you need is a bottle of the mojito mixer and a bottle of rum.

If you want to get knocked on your ass than have a long island iced tea:

Vodka
Gin
Rum
Tequila
Triple Sec
Sour Mix
Splash of coke

You must be a Brit. Can't find Pimm's that easy over here. Cheers!

Nah, I'm not British, but am blessed, apparently, that Pimm's is available Western Canada. Delicious stuff. I want to find some borage though, as it's the proper garnish.
On the downside, Western Canadian liquor prices are absurd...but at least the monopoly means I get a good selection.

Currently drinking Tully Dew on the rocks and topped up with 7-Up soda. Normally I'm an ass about mixing whiskey but as things stand at the moment I don't feel like pounding shots.

Whats alchopop???

It's a term used in some countries for sugary, low-alcohol beverages commonly believed to be marketed to young people. The term (alcohol + [soda]pop) was originally used by the more puritanical and morally panicked Americans and Aussies who think they're some sort of vast conspiracy to sell to underage drinkers. Same people who bitch that those flavoured cigarettes (swisher sweets etc) ought to be banned. They're also called "coolers." Examples would include Mike's Hard Lemonade, Smirnoff Ice and Bacardi Breezers -- they're basically water, lots of sugar, flavouring and some grain alcohol. Sometimes also called "bitch-beer" (American) or "cheerleader beer" (Canadian), but I've rarely heard those used.

Stuff like Smirnoff Ice, Mike's Hard Lemonade, Bacardi Silver, etc. 'round here we call 'em "cheerleader beer," though they're actually stronger in alcohol content than beers such as Keystone, Bud Light, Miller Lite, etc. if I remember correctly.

They might taste better, but I can't have more than 3 or 4 without getting a terrible fucking headache.

Not to mention a horrible gut the next day due to the copious amounts of sugar.
