View Full Version : Has seeing a shrink helped anyone?

I'm generally a shy person when it comes to revealing information about myself, and talking about my problems.

Lately things have been getting more and more heavy and I'm not so sure that I can hang anymore. Reluctant to see a psychiatrist in the past, I have tended to simply try to deal with things on my own. Growing up, I mostly had about two friends that I felt confident enough in talking to them about what was actually going on inside my head.

As we now live in separate areas, my brain feels like it might explode

Just a quick question really, has anyone ever gone to a shrink (a few times or consistently), did it help you, and would your recommend this practice?

I would never spend my money on a shrink, they are so incredibly shitty. I had to go to an alcohol/drug counseling thing about 8 months ago and the lady who did it like tried to be a psychiatrist.

My dad went there like a few months before me because of child custody shit with my brothers. And he apparently liked her so much he brought me and my little brother there with him for family counseling or some bullshit.

So then when I got caught by a cop with beer I had to get an evaluation. Apparently I was 'at risk' so they just had me go through an 8 week program. I had to meet with her for 1 hour every week on Tuesday at 3:30pm... it was utter bullshit.

That coupled with the fact she was already familiar with my family and she like tried to go beyond the alcohol and drug propaganda bullshit she spoke and tried to tie in my family problems with it, it just pissed me off to no extent.

Dude just either call your friends up or get some new ones. I've felt like that at times, just get some weed man.

Been going to one for close to a decade.

Only thing they did that has helped was medicating me.

They've helped me have less money, if that's what you mean.

There should be no such thing as a mental health "profession", these individuals practice bogusness it's obvious they can't help anyone. The only people who get in to psychology are bitches that think they live in a role playing game, the kind who try to psychoanalyze you and generally smell like shit, and faggoty men.

This is what I'm working on at the moment. Friends are hard to make for me, but I mean it's obviously do-able. Ha I used to smoke a lot, and that seemed to help, but when I was put into a situation where I didn't have any friends, weed was the only on there for me. I didn't really like that I allowed that to happen, so I've been taking a break for a little while.

But I might just have to get a little stoned and love the world around me. ;)

Basically what everyone has been saying has been my reasoning for not going to a psychiatrist.

I don't like the fact that I would have to pay someone to listen to me.

Don't forget it can disqualify you from owning a firearm, keeping custody of a child during a divorce, etc.

Yes, if you are diagnosed with depression or schizophrenia or anything, you can't own a gun.
