Barcodes do not set off the alarms.
There are a range of things that set off the alarms when going past the towers. The ones you'll find (if any) on a pack of batteries are most likely to be these:

Also take notice to observe the batteries carefully because sometimes they don't have the security thing on the outside. Some manufactures put the tag on the inside of the packaging between the cardboard and the product.
