View Full Version : How has your style changed over the years?

The first style I remember actively adopting was hip-hop type stuff. Baggy jeans, and I remember particularly liking Ecko shirts. I mostly grew out of that by the time I entered high school. Junior year I started dressing in clothes that fit. Amusingly, some of my high school peers identified these as "tight" clothes. I remember having a motorcycle jacket too, though I don't know what happened to it.

I mostly wore the same things for my first 2 years in college.

Now, my turning point was during this past summer. I started scrapping the logo stuff and instead wearing classier, more "adult" stuff (classic-style polos and shirts; Claiborne designs a lot of stuff I like). It's easier to shop for, since you didn't have to constantly look for a new logo design, and I always look sharp and distinct. Also, for a while I couldn't seem to find the right style of jeans, so I started wearing khakis (tan and black), though eventually I found the right Levi's style (slim and straight). Now I'd say I'm in the zone.

I've also recently added some plain black T-shirts into the mix, which I wear with jeans. That way I can be casual while still keeping that mature look I'm going for. I also bought some nice blazers (Christmas sales, ftw) which I'll try to incorporate somehow.

I've pretty much been the same in style since I actually gave a damn about what clothes I wore. Jeans and t-shirts topped with flannel button-ups during the winter, khaki cargo shorts and the same t-shirts all summer. What can I say? I like my clothing simple, if a bit plain.

I didn't have much style until the last year. Generally I like Lou Reed and Iggy Pop's general look, plus Bob Dylan style Wayfarer's, and try and alternate between them when I feel like it. All I need is a fucking leather jacket... maybe some beatle boots as well.

I try and never wear clothes with brands on them as well; almost all my T-shirts and Jean's are plain and unaffiliated.

I wouldn't say my style has changed, more changed as times have changed.

I've always been somewhere between a BMX kid and a chav.
Topman, Superdry, Gio Goi, Fred Perry, Adidas, Kappa, etc.

I've most noticeably have moved from a style based more around the brand and perceived quality rather than style and real quality. Other than that, more of a preppy look to more of an up-to-date fashionable look. In many Connecticut towns you are essentially bread to be a preppy New Englander. The standard uniform for guys in my high school was a RL polo shirt and Polo khakis. Actually Polo was really prevalent, my guess is to the huge outlet the next town over-- Clinton Crossings. Lots of logos on clothing, now it's none. Brands like Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Brooks Brothers (I worked there). Now, I'm wearing a Dior Jacket, no idea where my shirt is from, Dior jeans, Common Projects shoes. No logos, choices based purely on weather or not I liked the particular article of clothing. I just smoked some really good weed.

Way back when I used to dress in just like sweaters and crappy jeans. I'd wear random tshirts with stupid shit on them. Then I moved to a sort of almost punk phase, when it was cool to wear like band tshirts and baggy, ripped jeans. That didn't last long before I went to sort of boarder stuff. Baggy jeans, skate shoes, and board shirts with hoodies.

At this point I'm not really sure how to catagorize how I dress. I guess it's somewhere approaching streetwear. I've got Nike SB's and Vans Half Cabs. Alot of my clothes are American Apparel and my my jeans are mostly Levi's skinny fit. Have tshirts from like Stussy and 10 Deep and wear the occasional fitted New Era. Try to change it up every once in a while though. Go slightly hipster or a little preppy. Like the collarred shirt with a vneck sweater on top or Lacoste polo and occasionally throw on some skinny jeans and a cardigan or something.

I always wore tracksuits as a kid and into my teen years. Mainly tracksuit bottoms with a t-shirt or jumper, Lacoste was my favourite make. I now shop at high-end and low-end designer stores. Expensive jeans Evisu, Levi's, All Saints (Straight legged) with a top from Topman. You can't beat topman for a cheap top to wear. I also like expensive shoes, after all that is the first thing girls look at when you first meet them. Expensive jackets, too, you can always tell the diffierence between cheap and expensive jackets, I mainly wear leather.

I can't get down with Evisu, it's the back pocket detail that gets me

Yeah I pretty much prefer plain jeans with no graphics or anything, the ones I have have a red line goin down half way down both legs in the shape of an Evisu sign. There cool.

Before, I dresses in plain straight leg jeans for guys and just any t-shirt I like.
Then I realized being like everyone fucking sucked. So now, I wear skinny jeans which everyone assumes are girl jeans but are no. Though they are supposed to look like girl jeans. I also have one pair of pinstripe bell bottoms, which I dont wear at school only on weekends. FOr shirts I wear cool bands such as Pink FLoyd, Led Zepplin, Sublime, Jimi hendrix, David Bowie etc.I also have some plain pink shirts.
Now, I stick out like a sore thumb and I love that aboutme.

I know which ones you're talking about and I don't know. Seems a little too flashy to me. I'm not a big believer in paying $200 for a pair of jeans. Although I do want this pair of APC's with the badass back pocket design and maybe a pair of nudies. http://www.tragicbliss.com/misc/APC4months01.jpg

skinny jeans ftw.

I started out normal. Then i began my decent into the metal-goth culture, you know, painted my fingernails black and stuff, died my hair black, etc. (everything was black) then i started listening to different music.....right around the time lallapalooza started back up. Then i began wearing colors again, then i really got into colors- like bright colors. My best friend is gay, so that no doubt influenced some things here and there. With my new tastes in music I went to a lot of different concerts and saw happy people for once and that's how i came to like colors- but i guess it was more to distance myself from what i once was (goth). Being confused for a bit on what my style was and after being introduced to urban outfitters and stuff, i sort of remained in a dormant state of moderately "hip".

My experimentation with jeans is a long and complicated story. I didn't start wearing skinny jeans religously until about last year around this time. I first started with BDG (urban outfitters' branded) jeans, and some levi's super skinny. I then spent the money on some American Apparel jeans, which i shouldn't have done. Anyways, i thought levi's were good, but the more i thought about how i wanted my jeans, the more i thought i wanted them tighter. I hate jeans that bunch up around the ankles, and also, the levis didn't look that good on me. All of them had huge baggy bottoms (butt portion) to them, which i felt made me look sort of.....street, or ultra hipster, idk.

NOW i think I've finally found jeans i can forever love- and yes, I decided to cross the line into wearing womens jeans. BDG womens "cigarette" pants. They are amazing. I don't know why levi's don't make their super skinny's with more elastic material.....i mean, i can move all over the place and the material just stretches with me. PLUS the ankles are really small, and since i have chicken legs, they actually conform to my body.

so to sum up my current situation, I'm going for a more mature look, trying out black again (it always looks good) Pants are going to always be dark now (i had some funky colored ones) But I try and contrast them with bright tops/other stuff. Penguin polos, and collared shirts are big for me...plaid=good....I like cardigans, sweaters....short shorts.....I still frequent American Apparel and UO a lot, but am finding i don't like their stuff as much. (god, i could go on forever about what i look for in clothes) Thrift stores have some good stuff sometimes.

First one, I'm the fat guy with bleached hair.
I now dress in anything I think looks good, no matter how ridiculous, no matter how advertising of a brand.

Used to be all about skinny jeans, white Dunlop trainers, and some more strange clothes, like a few oddly coloured jackets and stuff. Used to have long blonde hair. Black jeans were cool too. All my clothes were pretty small, even on me back then (lanky runt, still am). One of tshirts, couldn't stand it if I saw someone else in clothes I had, etc. Tried really hard to be different I suppose?

Now I've matured, two years later or so. My main pair of shoes is a pair of Nike Skeets (google them, they're a little weird. I'm not sure whether they're skater or gangster). They're nice kicks, I'll say that. Nowadays I wear a lot more branded stuff. Nike joggers, a fair few branded track jackets (Fly53, Nike), a couple plaid/check shirts I wear to death, plain or band tshirts and slim/skinny jeans, though I bought some bootcuts and I wear them every often.

In the last few weeks (xmas sales etc) I've developed a little bit more... Bought a few branded tshirts, I wear my track jackets more and more often, got an American Apparel hoodie (xs... it's tiny!), slim or straight leg jeans, oh and plain hoodies, i swear by them. even the odd polo shirt finds it way in.

Yeah and my hair's changed a lot now. I cut it down to a nice little indie cut, then went more dramatic, dying it darker and going a bit bizarre with it (purple, with a really long fringe and a back that tilted to one side, shaved sides. Looked cool but it's hard to explain. Sort of like a fashion mullet, but more punx) and just recently I shaved it all off. I'm letting it grow back but I'm going to dye it again and shave the sides, and keep on spiking the top. Popular lads cut these days.

So you decided to wear skinnys and band shirts to stand out, about the time when standing out became normal, and wearing skinny jeans and band shirts became "cool". Right. You sure are unique.

Answer to question : Hmm, the only thing I can think of that has changed significantly is my haircut, which is shorter, and less over my face. Other than that... I guess I wear more shirts, but that may just be me becoming more mature.

My style used to be more preppy like polo shirts with slim cut jeans, trainer shoes and the like.
Nowadays, I'm trying to be more mature by wearing more dress shirts, with a tie sometimes. I wear cardigan to be more stylish or a v-neck sweater. A slim-fit blazer is also nice. Dark Blue jeans so that I would look formal or black pants. A duffel coat or a trench coat if it is cold outside. I wear oxford shoes.

When I first started caring about what I wore and making an effort to dress a certain way...it was a disaster. I lived in my too-small Ramones t-shirt, Converse high-tops, and anything in shades of red or black. I was never a weird emo kid who went out of the way to be different; I never went in for the crazy accessories or anything...just kind of grungy, as in a punk-lite, preteen version.

I've spent the last few years bobbing between a really simple, put-together style made up of skinny jeans, well-cut sweaters, H&M kind of stuff, and a complete opposite...kind of underground, indie, thrift-store trolling kind of thing.

Lately I've kind of given up on trying to be different for the sake of being different and try to find a nice medium between comfortable and flattering rather than trying to meet a certain aesthetic. That usually means I end up in nice jeans, t-shirts (this is where my love of thrift comes in especially) and band shirts, sneakers or boots, and sweaters (I love Aeropostale for the price and comfiness, and I also adore light knits and clingy sweaters), oooh and I like simple layered tanks with cardigans for a simple, comfy, yet put-together kind of look. I also live in my big, puffy army-green like...bomber jacket. It is the ultimate in cool.

Ok, so I actually have really awful style. I don't mind though.

Your style looks like it suits you. If all of your clothes are like the ones in the picture I would say you should add some more color to your life, but as is you dress very hipster-chic, by the looks of it. If you're happy and comfortable then I'd say that's all that really matters.

I'm not sure if it could even be called a bomber jacket, but for the life of my I cannot think of what else to call it (also, It's an extremely dorky photo, don't judge me):

Note to females: Unless you really go all out and do stuff that really stands out, most guys don't give a shit. We don't pay attention to your shoes, blouses, jeans, etc. We pay attention to your tits, ass, and face. As long as you aren't dressed in rags, then it doesn't matter.

Out of all the girls I've ever known or seen, there are really only 2 or 3 that had style that I actually noticed and thought was special.

Of course, I realize that other girls care about how other girls dress, so...I guess you have to do it.

I don't really dress for guys. Well, except my boyfriend, but he's not exactly hard to please. I don't really dress for other girls either...it's more a comfort and self-esteem thing. I feel better in clothes I think are cute and that I think look good on me.

I've been rocking cardigans and skinny jeans since middle school. Obviously the individual pieces have changed but the concept has for the most part stayed the same.

I used to wear at lot of 514s and 511s, and now primarily trust my lower half to the swedish. Acne and Nudie for sure, but mostly Cheap Monday.

I used to wear polos quite a bit more than I do now (not at all). Those have for the most part been replaced with v necks, aa, topman, oak or thrift store garbage.

I've never been good at shoes, I've been wearing converse since elementary school but am trying to give em up. Bought a pair of vans, small step, but eventually I'll make my way to something wingtipped.

And I still wear my grey rabbit ushanka whenever appropriate. I feel fucking naked without that thing. Maybe I'll get a fox fur one if I go back to russia.

For as long as I can remember, I usually just wore jeans, boots, and a band shirt. Lately, I'm wearing solid/vertical pinstripe button up shirts, skinny jeans, and a nice jacket (either a peacoat or a brown leather bomber), usually with a nice pair of black boots or some dress shoes. I like to keep the colors dark to avoid looking 'preppy' (if you would use that term), as well as keeping the materials of the jacket nice (shearling, lamb). I generally dress like I'm in the mafia, you could say.
