I want too set up wireless dialup by installing a fm transmitter/receiver in my phone box (I could probably figure out how). But my problem is how do I make a transmitter/receiver that can be plugged into the back of my computer and when the modem asks for a line it gets one? Schematics would be helpfull. (I know there is some on totses text files and I am going to search but I only have a hour of internet left and I must conserve it untill I get some DSL.)

I wasn't sure if it should go in: Radio Free Amerika but I decided on here.

Also I was wondering if I use a pbx what are the chances of me getting raped? And is it illegal for me to use it without permission?

What have you been smoking?

To make something that could connect a dial up connection wirelessly would cost more than a few hours of dial up costs.

You'd actually have to make a small computer and put it in your phone box. Then you'd have to install a server OS like windows server 2003. From there you'd have to have a wireless network connection attached and a wireless connection on the computer you were connecting too.

Estimated costs: £1,000 minimum.

What your asking for is a combination of old school dial up and new school wireless networking connected by a reasonable O/S.

Good luck

I planed to transmit a tap one my phone line via FM to a FM receiver and have a one to send sound back. I just need to figure out how to get it to know that the voltage changes so I can dial out with the modem.

You appear to have missed the point entirely. Reading my post might have helped.

If you make it work that way then well done.

I was going to say you were an idiot but ive been thinking about it and I guess the way you want to do it could be done but I honestly think that the amount of time you're going to invest in it will make it pointless. You might as well go do a job for 20 hours and pay for broadband for a few months.

If however you're going to push on with this regardless.....

there's always one isnt there.....

I guess you could buy 2 FM transmitters and buy 2 cheap FM radios. Ensure a power supply to all the devices. Read the voltage using a volt meter/amp meter (i forget which one) and then connect the speaker of the FM radio to the receiving cable of the modem and the sending one to the transmitter. Do the same in the phone box. You can change the voltage by chaning the speaker volume on the radio. Technically the modem should have fault correction software that should correct all the wrong sounds coming out of the radio.

Honestly man just pay for broadband or crack the Wifi of your neighbours. I understand Nvidia's GPU can be used to brute force a password in a day or two.

...sorry I know you're trying to help the guy. But I can't let this one go.

If he's going to be reading voltage....he would use a *sigh* VOLTmeter. Get it?

Amp meter = amperage = current

current != voltage They're two different things ;)

Just thought I would help you out with that one there. Its really all words...
