So we all stumbled across this site, most searching for illicit advice. But what actually caused you to join the forum?

Just searching through the archives, I found the first thread that I ever read. I came back for days just to read the updates in the thread:

http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=1546783

That very thread is responsible for NuclearWinter. If it wasn't for Pooktaro making that thread, I would not be here.

Posts #3, #8 and #9 in that thread was my first impression of the community. Whenever I read them, they always gauged a laugh... That was humor. None of these fucking "meme" bullshit a lot of these fags carry on with now. Memes came with the flood of '06.

Back then, it was a big deal to make a thread. If a newbie was to start a thread, they would usually put a lot of thought into it and took a lot of time. Back then all the newbies wanted to just fit in. But I'll tell you this much, a lot of the "noobs" back then were much better posters than 70% of the regulars today.

Notice there are no threads like that in totse any more.... That was totse for me, until opening registration of '06.

This is ultimately what I want to see totse achieve again..... Take the history lesson and read check that thread out afterwards.

So, how do you remember totse? Why are you here and how was it for you when you first joined?

Umm I started browsing IFIOTW, then made my way into spurious. Haven't looked back :).

I don't care if I'm a shit poster. I just post here man. I love it.

Funny how that thread is title "/r/ stories about crazy kids you knew in elementary school"

/r/, as in "/r/ - Request": http://cgi.4chan.org/r/imgboard.html

Just sayin'

that was a good thread. Totse would be better if it were more like that.

I started posting to drop some science on these children because I was crippled and couldn't do anything else.

I'll never remember the thread that got me into totse. It was one that would change the way I thought and acted forever. I owe the eternal debt of my humble life to this landmark of western literature and its ingenius perpetrator:

Truly inspirational stuff.

I believe I speak for many when I say it was this. (http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2055429).

Unfortunately, registration was closed for about a year after I first saw it, and lurked BLTC, BI, S&A, and IFIOTW forever before they finally opened the signups again.

I signed up to Totse on the advice on a friend and do not remember the first threads I viewed

however I have fond memories of going on night op expeditions when Totse night ops was more than just 13 year olds sneaking out to smash warehouse windows and steal car radios

I also think that back in the day threads like eBlip's mirror or HTS-Noob's highlighter escapades were left to run their course

nowadays there are few truly epic and original threads and when some kid recently fucked a toaster in S&A somebody locked it

And also people encouraged the discussion, but now all the replies would just be like "pix" or "liar" or some simple one word shite to bump the post count of the noobs.

Well actually I believe it was because that thread reached 40 pages.

Anyway, on topic:

I don't remember what thread/s exactly made me join; rather it was like a whole bunch of really funny posters/posts/threads. I started out in Bad Ideas and I remember seeing this thread where the author said something to the effect of: "I followed some of the advice in the Bad Ideas forum and now I am caught and they gonna put me in jail..are there a lot of black men in the prison waiting to rape you? I am really worried because I am very bashful"

I was fucking rolling on the ground.

My buddy from school told me about the forums. Said there was some real funny shit so I checked it out.

The first few threads I looked at were in S&A. I found them funny because some of the threads were sooo fucked up, thought it was hilarious. Then I eventually found my way to SG

The good old days. When every reply in a topic absolutely slated the topic maker and every response was a witty meme-in-making or a well-typed answer.
Okay, I'm exaggerating but the whole everybody making fun of everything environment was what made totse great. That and the amount of genuinely useful information that was available (and may well still be, I don't check the specialist forums too frequently and probably overlook the stuff I already know).

Totse is just going through the chan phase at the moment. Give it 6 months and the genuinely interested/ing posters/lurkers will still be here whereas the /b/tards and socially inept outcasts will have moved on to gaia or something.
Though that isn't to say that being socially inept and being a good poster aren't mutually exclusive.

Shit, Wintermute might even come and rear her ugly head sometime.

Paradise Lost, fullcircle, I remember they were cool posters. Back when I decided to join even spam was funny, and I thought this was a pretty cool site where I could express things I couldn't sometimes express in 'real life' without some heavy repercussion.

Hell, I even learned and discovered a lot of stuff here; bands like Porcupine Tree, do it yourself techniques, sex tips from REAL young and old people alike, irrelevant shit threads that still make me laugh in a bad day and a lot of cool pics, vids and sites, as well as having an opportunity to somehow interact with people from all around the world.

Ah, fucking lol. Meta has always provided lulz in some way or another, although it's usually without his consent.

I clearly remember a spamming spree, I think it was about "XXX coming out of my closet", or something of the sort. I'm almost SURE somebody has to have archived lots and lots of funny, epic totse stuff. I only wish I would've joined much, much earlier.

hah, oh god.
I remember my first memories of Totse weren't on the bulletin bored.

My first memories consisted of reading the articles, and "Holy shit, you really CAN get high off of cough syrup?!?!"

...and then posting stupid questions in BLTC.
Asking for advice in Bad Ideas...

...TOTSE turned me into a bad kid.

My location is an homage to Charlie Parker

I don't know how to look at old posts either, my above comment is just because I posted in the thread linked by the OP. When vB was first implemented, you could see posts going back as early as '00'-'01, but I guess Jeff disabled that.

i remember coming on one day and seeing purpleheadedyogurtslinger posting. cant remember what it was but it was something hilarious enough to keep me coming back weekly for almost 5 years, and people like psycho_8b, xannex, Somelowlife, and the Viz are only part of what makes totse great. This place has made me heaps of cash as well as saved my ass in MANY a situation. Ive evaded arrests, learned how to pick car locks, and even found an alternative form of surgical abortion through the advice of a fellow totsean.

its true totse has been on a downslope for a long time now, but fuck you all, ill always be around...

I don't remember the very first thread but I do remember the first one I followed. It was a long one with several memebers in the "My God can beat the shit out of your God" attempting to write their own bible or something. The plan was to write a chapter each, without knowing each other and only about one central thing.

Or something like that. I forget how they got on but after that I started lurking more in other forums and eventually made my first post (I think) in the epic Benadryl Bandit Bug thread (http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2014836).

I know totse now as the place in where people complain about how shit it is. Totse is the people who post on it, and right now, the peolpe, totse, is just a cumilation of complaints. If you want to change totse for the better then start making good threads and stop complaining.

True, as a new poster I haven't much say, and I do agree with nuclearwinter that certain aspects of this site have gone down the shitter, but, I feel that not all parts of the site have been afflicted by this wave of foolishness.

On forums like My God, Politics, Gearheads, and the tech forums, topics seem to be discussed with as much vigor, conviction, and point of view as they always have. True, some parts of this site are not what they have been in the past, namely SG, but I don't think this general decline would apply as paramount to all forums.

I was also one of the people who only knew about the text files for months before I found the forums. I think one of/the first threads I read was OneMulatto claiming he'd been arrested for selling coke or some shit like that. I didn't register for a while after, though, just lurked.

I'd disagree with you on that one. I was active from the end of '04 to the middle of '06 and one thing that sticks in my mind was how the place got spammed up all the time, which doesn't seem to be the case now.

I've started posting a bit recently and have to say I really like new totse. I like the new forums and the profile options. Thread content has hardly changed though... when first joined people were banging on about how, "totse isn't what it used to be!" just like right now, hehe!

I lurked for ages as I didn't realise there was a forum, learning how to make pipe bombs etc. Never built any as getting hold of any chemicals in the UK is near enough impossible.

Fortunately for me totse was never a place of great humor. I joined it because of the "no bullshit" mentality I saw in the forums. Like many others I'd browse the textfiles at first and upon discovering the forums I'd lurk for ages (still mostly do, actually).

Looking at the thread NW posted a link to, I don't think that much has changed, apart from the meme shit. Thankfully it's motsly contained in the forums I don't really browse.
