View Full Version : What does BLTC look for in a new smoking device?

What do you guys look for when buying a new pipe/bong/chillum/etc?

For me, these are the five things:

Appearance
Durability
Smokability
Portability
Price

I don't know if it's just me, if I'm in the minority, but when it comes to buying a new pipe, I am very selective and take hours to decide on the perfect one.

Are many of the rest of you like this? Or are the majority just like "give me the cheapest one...sure...that one."

Also, how does your current smoking device stand up to your personal judgement?

a good sized bowl, a pretty large carb to clear it easier, pretty thick glass to avoid breaking, and the appearance...

I always look for something that can rip, is affordable and has thick glass so it won't break.

Pretty much what OP mentioned minus portability. Not really an issue seeing as how if I'm to smoke on the go, it usually involves a blunt wrap or rolling paper. Not to say I don't have portable pieces, of course - just today I bought a clear and blue chillum that's superbly easy to pocket.

Well I don't smoke bowls but in a bong...
- Big. Fuck portability I'm not taking my glass anywhere.
- Clear with little design
- Glass on glass
- Gotta have a bowl with ash catcher
- Ice catcher
- Chambers
- Thickness

You can't get all that for cheap IMO but you only need one serious glass piece and it pays for itself because you get extra high off a little amount.

Solid, easy to clean and portability. However I never use pieces. I always break them.

I just twist up a little blunt whenever I want to smoke, which isn't very often anymore.

Copy pasta from my Rok-it bong thread.

I look for everything that OP looks for. It's the next addition into my collection, whenever I can afford it.

----

So, I've been on the lookout for a new bong, and I've seen these Rok-it bongs for a long time on the everyonedoes it headshop, and I've always been intrigued.

A few things that really turn me onto the idea of owning one:

1. Durable. I've gone through way too much money on broken glass.

2. Very smooth hits. Glass joint bongs are all the rage these days, but this bong looks just as effective - if not more so. In fact I think they're even the originators in smoke diffusion in bongs.

3. Small. I dunno why, I just like compact bongs. ESPECIALLY if they're as smooth as this one claims. Easy to pack, easy to hit, easy to pass, easy to transport. They even come with their own nifty case for easy packing.

4. Novelty. Glass joint bongs are everywhere now. I'm sure most of you know someone who has one. But what about Rok-its? You don't see very many of those. I've smoked with TONS of people, and have never run across someone who owns one.

5. Video below demonstrates how quickly the bong clears. I hate bongs that take most of your lung capacity just clearing a bong. Not only does this bong hit smooth, but when you inhale you're going to get much more smoke than the bigger bongs.

6. Easy to clean. These pieces can be disassembled completely and each piece can be cleaned to work brand spankin' new. Some of the big bongs have so much stuff in them, ice catchers, diffusers, percolators, ash catchers, large chambers...many of you know how much of a pain in the ass it can be to clean them. And lets face it, after they've been broken in, they just don't have that oh-so-nice fresh bong taste to them.

Anyway, here's some stuff for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about:

So, anyone use one? I've read good things but I'd like some of your guys' input. I've almost definitely got my mind set on this thing. It just meets all of my preferences in smoking technology.

small bowl hole so i don't have to break a lil piece of glass n use it for a screen

large-ish carb, maybe the size of a pea or smaller usually

i like my pieces clear, so i can see the smoke. i don't really care about design because there are other pretty things that you see a lot more.

thickness, so it doesn't burn ur hands or ur lips

big ass deep bowl, cuz i like to hold the lighter like <1 inch away so i don't put the flame directly on it, more like get the hot air from the lighter to semi-vape it

i use a chillum with a cap with a hole in it for on the go, so i don't care bout portability

I've found the ratio of hole-size to width of the chamber the smoke travels through is important. if its a large chamber (as in the circumference of the canal the smoke goes down is large) then it feels like i have to pull harder, and vica versa. This has to do with physics, and fluid dynamics or something, but i have yet to take higher level courses in them, so i couldn't be sure.

Anyways, i like to be able to see through my bowl. But you're RIGHT, it took me FOREVER to decide what kind of bowl i was going to buy about two weeks ago. It didn't help that i had like, hundreds to choose from though. They can't look like they're painted either. It needs to be shiny.

lol, just saw the post above me ^^^

i buy swisher sweets for blunts of usually reggie or mids

i go to a head shop with really unique glass one hitters for my kind bud. instead of short and stubby they are longer than average and are pretty skinny and cool as fuck looking.

i just buy your standard spoon bowl that is pretty small for also smoking kind bud.

i have a mini bong that stands 4" tall for one man sessions or taking kind bud rips

i have a 8" bong for reggie and mids.

that's all i need, no need to be flashy.

edit- so basically glass = class. rello = reggie.

1) type of device (bong, pipe, bubbler)

2) appearence.

thats it for me.

Appearance: Like shape, size, color,
Durability: no cracks, think glass, no weak points, etc...
Carb: must have a carb
Uniqueness: I usually want something that not everyone else has.

mate, if you imagine it like a hydraulic system (with the bit with water in being the chamber and your breathing being the piston) you might be able to understand it a bit better. imagine what happens to the difficulty of pulling/pushing if the chamber is narrower, wider, etc.
