I turned 21 a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't not had, at least, five drinks a night sense. And I definitively would not like to try to get to sleep without one.
Any suggestions on how I could stop drinking if I wanted to?

Yeah one drink a night? I would hate to see you strung out on a 24pack and a half bottle a day.
It's probably something to do with the novelty of it all. I know many people who shortly after 21 got blasted every night for a few weeks then calmed down in short order.

^^ I thought so at first, but now I feel like if I wanted to stop drinking I would have a miserable time. That's what spurred this thread.

Yeah, now that I think about it it's more like 4 or 5 drinks.

I know you got them skillz son. ;) So easy a monkey could grow it.
But I feel ya on the alcohol part. I drink alone most nights of the week. :(
Not hard to not drink when life isn't turning out what it's supposed to be.

No, I'm wrong. It wasn't when I turned 21 did I start drinking every night, it was when I lost my girlfriend 4 or 5 months ago...
damn this shit kind of sneaks up on you.
Why would you wanna be sober?
Didn't notice it before but perhaps your problem has something to do with your location?

I've been drinking a 6pack of full-strength beer every work night for the last two years, sometimes even 8. Then on most weekends I drink a carton or more of beer a day. Somehow I doubt you have developed an addiction.

Think critically.
I began steadily drinking, and now I cannot live without alcohol. Not an addiction you say?

No I don't believe you are addicted, you probably think you are and it's just a placebo. Why'd you want to be addicted anyway?

Ahahaha beat me to it!!
Butv seriously OP, just ease off the alcohol, smoke some weed instead or something, as others have said. You can try tapering off too. Good luck.

I don't care to be sober, I don't have a problem or anything. I'm just surprised at how quickly alcohol can become habit forming.

I've noticed how quickly it becomes a habit too. Luckily, I'm just a casual accepted alcoholic at a glass of wine or a beer at night.
I find smoking weed helps ahha. Replacing addiction with another isn't that great either.
Just be excited for the next day and go to sleep thinking about you'll wake up bright a fresh, new shit will happen, you can get some work done you might need, etc. Think about the coffee too.
I dunno how to help with alcohol really thought, my best friend is stupidly alcoholic and it causes a lot of unnecessarily bad situations and discussions. Don't let it get too out of control because it pisses off your friends.
When I got my first fake ID when I was 16 it was not long till I was constantly fucked up, at school, at home, driving around. Self control is the key to not doing stupid shit and getting arrested all the time.

Alcohol is great. Don't get drunk as fuck every night though, hangovers suck. Have a few drinks and smoke a bowl or two and you should be feeling pretty good

This.
Hey im in the same boat, I turned 21 like 2 weeks ago and I havent been sober since. Probably blown a good $300 on booze by now since my birthday.
all the liquor stores IN THE WORLD are open to me now and it's too tempting to look at that bottle and not buy it.
bottoms up! stop being a pussy and drink more than you ever have before!
the only people addicted to alcohol are the people who claim they aren't addicted, but 'diseased'
so chill out, you just like being drunk

That is NOT being an alcoholic, since the studies have shown that drinking one glass of wine is actually beneficial for your health. Alcoholism is where you need to drink to get through your day. I.E. Drinking first when you wake up, having the DT's and even having withdrawals/ sleeping problems. Alcoholics will drink in excess of a liter of distilled spirit a day.
Alcoholism is also defined as when Alcohol interferes, or negatively affects your daily life.
OP You're not an alcoholic, just try to cut down on the sauce and you should be fine.

Alchohol fucking sucks.
I too predict i will be an alchoholic too someday when I turn 21. Most of my family is alchoholics/drug users. I always need something to be fucked up on, and since losing all my connects and alchohol is legal, so it's the only option left in such desperate times. Fuck beer though, I rather take straight shots of whiskey, no chasers.

Alcohol is really addictive, recently I quit heroin and have been turning to alcohol whenever I feel the need to shoot up and I can say it's not much better. I've been drunk almost every day for the past three weeks and now I'm creating a problem for myself again by becoming an alcoholic instead of a heroin addict. It just dosen't seem as bad as other drugs but really is, but at least my girlfriend can't get mad cause its not dope hah. Fuck my life :(

If alcohol and heroin are equally addictive, than would you agree that an alcohol addiction is worse because it's more destructive?

Wow, thats pussy shit man. My friends dad just died from alcoholism. He was in and out of the hospital, and the last time he was the doctors told him 3 months if he didn't stop and he still drank a case and a half a day. That's an addiction. Don't complain about how hard it is, just stop if you don't want to drink you little bitch.

4 or 5 beers a night isn't that bad man. I drink 4 or 5 beers before I go to work, it helps me work better, and when I get home I usually drink about 6 more to help me sleep, alcohol and pot are the only things that help my insomnia. I usually end up drinking even more than that on the weekends too. I don't really consider myself an alcoholic though, it hasn't caused any problems for me yet, and I hardly ever have hangovers. I've been drinking almost everyday since I was 20, and I'm 26 now too.

Eh ... what the hell?
Y'all yanks just ... get shitfaced when you turn 21? Jeesh, I've been allowed to enjoy a half glass of wine since I was 15, I was taught moderation since my early teens and its worked out fine for me.
The benefits of living in Belgium I suppose ...
Seriously, alcohol is an extremely enjoyable drug, but it's also highly destructive, and just because you can doesn't mean you should.
Now, i guess I'll pop a beer, hop in the couch with my old folks and enjoy a cold one before turning in.
