View Full Version : Outgrowing your old friends.
I am going to start of by saying that I tend to keep alot of friends. When I say friends I don't mean people you just say hi to once in a while and smoke a bowl with. I mean friends as in people I can entrust my life to, and that I actually enjoy hanging out with. Many of these people I have known since middle school, some since high school but now I have ran into a dilema.
I switched high schools when entering the 11th grade this year. After the switch I made a few good friends and met a few people I used to be friends with in middle school, lost touch, but now we are close again. There are some people I just don't like hanging out with anymore, and try to avoid doing so. Some of these people I had no problem avoiding since it seemed they felt the same way. I mean, we keep in touch every once in a while, but then we just part on our ways again.
Some of these other people I just can't get rid of. I have to be ignoring constant calls, texts etc. It's fucked up but what other choice do I have. I cant tell someone that I have been good friends with for 2 years or more that I don't want to be friends with them anymore. Can't they take the hint and just move on just like the people mentioned above. I mean, we will still keep in touch, check up on each other, but we can't have what we used to have.
Anyone have similar problems, how did you deal with it. Any interesting stories about some people that were just too much.

If you keep ignoring them they'll get the hint eventually, depending on how gay they are it may take longer than you like though.
I was having the same dilemma up until about a week ago. I had really good friends for a while, we were close, I guess we kinda outgrew each other a little because of our views on life and shit. They got really addicted to cocaine, too. I just started hanging around with them as of a week ago after months of just ignoring them talking to me on msn/phoning/comming to my door. I've been to afew parties since then, spent my New Year with them and remember what a good laugh I have with them, they're really funny, the sort of funny you can't get out of people you've just met/girls. They've stopped taking cocaine. We just drive around getting up to no good and macking on girls/clubbing. I'm just not going to get so close to these guys again, just keep it cool and see what happends.
If you've not already got a girlfriend, you should get one. That would be a brilliant excuse to twang them. I'm looking for a girl just now to settle down with, so I guess I won't see as much of my buds as I used to.
Same problem here, kinda, I moved from Australia to the US. New high school, they put me in junior year (instead of Senior year which I should be in.) As far as friends go I tend to keep to myself, people a friendly to me and I'm friendly to them. I would totally like to make more friends or whatever but it almost seems like it's a little late in the high school game you know? Basically I'm spending an extra year in high school, wasting my time and trying to make friends. Yeah.
I've only had to do this to one of my friends. He was my best friend since I met him in kindergarten, but as we got older he got more and more out of hand. He smoked alot, which in itself wasn't a problem, but the thing was that he was so fucking stupid and got caught all the time. After a few times of getting caught for various things, he eventually got sent away to some correctional camp in Iowa. He was there for a year, and when he came back, he called me up and we hung out again cuz I though he might have wisened up, but soon after he got caught again on possession. He kept calling, but I just ignored him, because sometimes you gotta cut the bad parts out of your life.

Since finishing high school i cut off contact from all my friends as most of them were freaks who were oblivious to how annoying they were. I plan to rebuild my social life next month when i start UNI.

Went form Melbourne, Australia (Xavier College if anyone is familiar) or Washington DC/Montgomery Country Maryland. My family are in the Foreign service so we move a lot, I've always made friends and shit but this time it just doesn't seem worth the while...

Once you leave High School all those friends don't mean shit. You will see young grasshopper friends will let you down time and time again. Only friend you need is a girlfriend.

That is exactly the same with me. The people who were my friends in '77 are still my friends to this day. Though we have spread across the state. Then there are those friends that I picked up when I moved to the Bay Area ['mid 80's]. They are still my friends and are the ones I mostly hang out with to now. But that's because they are the ones who live near me.

There are a select bunch of mates I'm keen to keep in contact with since my move from the country, theres a lot of people I never ever want to speak to again. However, if I am to see friends, I have ot put up with the rest of the trash.
