I'm upgrading from Vista back to XP. I might give Windows 7 a shot, just for fun. I know beta is coming out on the 8th I think.

Anyway, I know Vista has it's own partition software that lets me change partitions as I'm in Vista. So if I install XP and give it a 20 gig partition, can I log into Vista, access my XP drive, send files over, and slowly expand the XP partition as I decrease the size of Vista, or will I have to reboot each time and run partition magic to get access to the XP partition and enlarge it.

If you want to know why I'm going through the trouble, I have an almost full 500GB HDD and nowhere to put the files while I transfer to XP. So my only choice is to transfer them little by little and I'm hoping this will be an easy way to do it.

If you're wondering why I'm going back to XP, I'm sick and tired of compatibility issues, waiting for drivers or trying to make my own in vain, and as an added bonus the "super efficient search function" is a piece of shit, the GUI is a piece of shit, and all the extra crap they added to make vista better did more harm than good. It takes 10 times as many steps to both change my desktop image and resolution, because they thought it'd be smarter to have it in separate screens rather than conveniently separated by tabs.

Little shit like that pissed me off. If you have some hail mary reason as to why I should stick it out, I'm listening, but I'm also sick and tired of shit not working, especially my music software (and hardware).

just get a 120-320 gb external hard drive, and put your shit in there, that would work?

500 gigs man, that a lot of shit!

This or back up, format and create 2 250GB partitions. Manually shrinking the Vista partition slowly using it's built in software is going to cause you many many head aches.
