I ordered a TV Tuner card but the installation guides in Swedish. I think its only a software installation guide for their shitty Windows program anyway though so fuck it.
So I slipped the card into an available PCI slot in my comp but I noticed there are 3 or 4 little rectangular sockets on this card but I don't know what they're for. They didn't give me any wires to go with them though so they're probably not important.
I'm on Linux and I don't wanna install they're shit program with WINE can I use any TV Tuner program with any TV Tuner card? I hear MythTV is a good one for Linux. Would that work with any TV Tuner card.
The card came with a few accessories such as a remote control with buttons like TV, Music, Picture, Video, Radio, DVD and Play/Pause, Stop and all that kinda shit. What the hell would I control with this remote though?
They threw in an adapter with a male AUX connector (I have no idea what this type of plug is all I know is it goes into the slot that says AUX on the tuner card. Is AUX similar to RF signal?) and 4 female connectors (S-VIDEO, yellow video RCA, green audio out RCA and a blue audio in RCA).
They threw in what looks like an IR sensor (now I know what the remotes for) connected to an audio jack. Fuckin hell that things slick I didn't think you could get cheap little IR sensors like that.
Other accessories are a wire with an audio jack on each end and a little wire with a female RF connector on one end and two plastic things on the other end?!?!
Thats all of it. The first thing I need to do is backup some VHS's onto my harddrive but right now I only have an RF wire. Would RF be shit quality? My VCR doesn't have an S-VIDEO socket it only has composite video. Should I just wait till I get a composite video wire or would the difference in quality be negligable if I used the RF wire?
I also wanted to get TV signals into my computer but I don't have a socket anywhere near my comp. Should I just buy a real long RF wire or is there another way to do it? Can you get converters that you plug directly into normal electrical outlets? I don't know how that kinda shit works but I saw ethernet sockets that you just plug directly into electrical sockets so if it works for ethernet I assume it'll work for TV signals.
