So i'm going to sign the papers Friday, and want &T's advice for army life. I'm trying to go in to a medical related field,so i am expecting to be a medic of some sorts. So what does &T have to offer?

Don't join the Army, I made that mistake and now I'm regretting joining. Though I am getting discharged soon :)

Enjoy hopefully you like it. It will be fun for the first 1-2 years and after that you cant wait until you can get out. Hope your not going 11B, it is the only MOS in the army all other 200 MOS support it. Life will be hell if you are Infantry :) in a good/love/hate way.

Fuck the army. At least you're a medic though.

Being a medic is more than sticking a band-aid on a graze. If you are a field medic, prepare for some sickening shit to patch up whilst risking your life. If you go through with all of it you will have my unwavering respect. Good luck :D

Are you sure you're going to be a medic, or was that just some bullshit promise the recruiter made to you, knowing full well you'll end up as cannon fodder?

I'm thinking about joing as a Medic or Dog Handler.

If I don't get good enough A Levels to go to uni then I will just take a few months to get fit and join the army.

But I guess I'll be joining the best army in the world, and you'll be joining some shitty army.

Well, good luck to you. Should you get into the Eighty Deuce we'll hook up.
If you do get into the medical field you will like your AIT experience at Fort Sam Houston.

Should you not like the experience, you have the best chance of getting out and not ruining your civilian life if you get out during Basic Training or AIT. You have 180 days, then getting out unscathed gets hard.
Its called an Entry Level Separation.

Sign up for the least amount of years possible, NO MORE THAN THREE. You can always re-enlist if you like it.

I also INSIST you look up the enlistment bonuses available to the job you are choosing, and dont sign shit until you get them.

You can reserve your job at the recruiters station, they tend to pressure recruits at MEPS and you wont get the job or bonus you want. If they dont give you a job you want, wait until it opens up. The recruiters will call you when it is. I STILL get calls to this day asking if I still want to join.

Look into Airborne added onto your contract. Its an easy school to get through as long as you can pass a PT test.
Units that are Airborne allow you to jump more often. As long as you jump once every 3 months you get an extra 150 dollars a month.

Good Luck

I'm 17 and I'm going to BCT for the US army this summer, well, I haven't signed anything yet but that is what I'm planning, I'm not sure what I want to do yet though when I get through basic.

Read this. (http://tinyurl.com/2n6pqh)

As has been said, join up for the minimum. Keep your head down. Whatever you want get it in writing, and don't get fobbed off with a MOS you don't want. Don't stick out. Realise basic training is essentially a mindfuck with PT and lack of sleep being a lot of it. Just a few questions though.

Why do you want to join up?
Do you want to do this as a career or just something for a few years?
Are you fit enough?
Why do you want to be a medic?

Getting out after 5 years in the infantry in two months. I know the feeling its a love-hate relationship. Work ethics and some other shit is great but the bullshit you deal with from leadership on a constant basis is too much to handle.

The military lifestyle can be very attractive if you're a very organized person. Everything has to be done perfectly. More importantly, everything is laid out for you. Your work schedule. Your daily tasks. Your meals, housing, insurance. Everything is decided and provided for you by the higher ups. Some people hate the lack of control they have over their lives, some people love it.

Nah, fire fights are rare unless your in Baghdad or Northern Iraq for the past two years. Even Baghdad its getting hard to find. Mostly you just deal with wait and see if you get blown up. Done more then my fair share of raids though nailing HVT's, thats a thrill and straight up adrenaline rush locking down a whole block w/shoot to kill order if anyone leaves. Gets intense I wish people would leave just to give us a reason lol. So boring over there now.
