The top 10 rated ideas from the final round will be presented to the Obama administration on January 16th at an event at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, co-hosted by the Case Foundation. At the event we will also announce the launch of a national advocacy campaign behind each idea in collaboration with our nonprofit partners to turn each idea into actual policy.
Marijuana Legalization is currently in first place. And End the War on Drugs" is in a battle for 2nd with Health Care. It's really close. The gap is currently only 12 votes!
I understand skepticism, but this is definitely a step in the right direction, and it definitely can't hurt. It won't even take 3 minutes of your time.
I'm pretty sure he's well aware of marijuana legalization, he doesn't need it "presented to him". It's not like the top ten ideas are the only things he's going to look at.

Most likely something along the lines of this:
"Mr. Obama, our country of America was built upon freedom...The freedom of some industries to maintain a monopoly on their own markets. Marijuana legalization will put a large dent in our pockets, so were going to put a smaller dent in them and offer you a shitload of money to keep this from happening."
Obama isnt stupid. He may be a fucking dickhead, but hes not stupid. Pushing for marijuana legalization is political suicide. Even though Obama himself may not be in the pockets of the tobacco, alcohol, and cotton industries, other politicians who have large amounts of power ARE.
I really wish I could see the day come that marijuana will become legal in the US. But I doubt I will.

Now, for the time being, you are mostly right. Mary Jane legalization is politcal suicide, and even if Obama supported it(I support him regardless, but this isn't a political thread), you are right other powerful members of our government would try and stop it. However, if one pushes for change, it is sure to come. Sure right now, it probably won't happen, but years from now, as those with power die out, and young ones grow up and gain those positions, maybe their views would be different and thusly, they would change the law. That of course is very optimistic of me, but it is a very plausible possibility.
And if you look into history, it only took a few great men to make these united states. Personally, I don't care much for it here, but they wanted something drastic to happen, and they worked for it, and it happened. All I'm saying is it probably won't happen till most of us here at the temple are old if not dead, but change will eventually happen.

Well as I see it, one of two things will happen concerning mary jane.
1. It will be decriminalized, or legalized to an extent.
2. Eventually, all but the most conservative states will legalize it. Which will mean only the feds will really fuck with you for possession. Which will effectively decriminalize it to the extent unless you're growing/moving/possessing massive amounts, you won't have to worry about it.
I hope those days come soon....

For clarification. The top ten ideas thing is NOT being done by Obama's Transition team. This is being done by a coalition of groups fighting for various social causes that have been ignored over the past eight years called change.org.
Even though this is not through Obama's Transition team i do believe this is a valuable usage of your time, because this is such a large coalition of groups this will give the cause of marijuana legalization more time in the spotlight so please go vote before January 15 5:00 EST
