This is the exact reason why I never let cartons of cigs or $10-$20 lotto tickets get onto the counter before I see the money coming across first. It'll work great if the cashier is an idiot, but honestly, you've got to be pretty stupid to turn away from the point of sale when there's (around here at least) about $100 worth of cigarettes within the customer's reach and a counter's between the two of you.
