I'm a 17 year old junior in highschool and i've been training for marine recon, and will be joining the DEP as soon as the senior class graduates this year in June. My goal is to be one of the few chosen to be allowed to join Recon straight out of bootcamp. My recruiter was ex-recon and sent a kid last year to do that, but he said ussually only 4 people are chosen straight of highschool in the country. Now i being a reasonable person know that it would impossible to ever be one of those four even if i had all the physical aspects and intelligence required due to understandable prejudices they would have to my size. You see i'm proudly 5'6 120-125 and skinny (but very athletic aswell i'd like to add). But i'd still like to try, i mean just to prove to myself that i can be as great as the people who actually will be chosen.
Regarding the physical aspects, I made it my goal to beat the pft test ability of the kid they sent last year. He was able to do 27 pullups, 200 sit ups in 2 min, and run the 3mile in 16 min. in november when i started to train my top sadly for pull ups was doing sets of 5 reps to 100 with a max of 15, and now i do sets of 20 reps to 100 with a max of 25. i ussually stay still till about 15-18 then i get a little movement in my form but not to much i dont think. sit ups would probably be around 100 to 120 i havnt really did a test on it yet, and my time in the three mile would probably around 18-19( i only slack here cause i've been sitting on my ass since last years soccer season, prolly wasnt a good idea). I plan on continuing my training doing 100 pull ups a day and when i get the chance 200, 50-100 dips, i'll be running with the best runner in my school who is like a track and cross-country star, and of course doing like 500 sit ups and 250 push ups. I only do workouts that only involve using my own body weight, i cant stand weights, it seems more practical to just use your own body. I also am not doing this with any steroids or supplements, i see it that if i cant do it with out help then you didnt really earn it and its the path for wimps(mostly steroids i suppose). As for the mental aspects i'm very intelligent and the ASVAB should be a breeze untill i get to the auto, shop, and electronics aspect of it, then im pretty much fucked cause i used those as my sleeping classes! I plan on getting an ASVAB preperation book to help with that.
Now my question is does anyone have any information that i need to know or that could help me out, or any advice on getting better physically and mentally?
(sorry for the length)
