Godfuckingdamnit, why do so many good bands have terrible vocalists?
Examples:

Shit would be so much better with an appropriate singer.

Well, I'm not exactly sure what the fuck your talking about here.
For one, what exactly do you mean by shitty vocals? Harsh metal vocals? If so, then what the fuck kind of vocals would you prefer on an extreme metal song, especially bands like Children of Bodom and Amon Amarth.
I couldn't imagine (and probably wouldn't listen to) either of those bands if they had "regular vocals". One of the reasons that I love COB, is because there really aren't any bands out there that sound similar, in terms of vocals, guitars, keyboards, even the drums. That sort of band you'd expect either less keyboard and regular death metal growls, or more keyboard and power metal style vocals. Instead, Alexi does more Black Metal styled vocals, and that's what sets them apart.
And how are you going to say Amon Amarth is ruined by thier singer? What the fuck else kind of vocals should a viking metal band have? The vocals are all gutteral and deep, it's perfect for the music.
Aggressive SHOULD have aggressive vocals. It's the fucking point. It's what sets these bands apart from radio friendly bullshit metal.
And I fucking LOVE it.
As for bands I think that are ruined by thier singer. The new Norma Jean stuff, I quite dislike because thier singer is a bit different. Thier first two albums, all the vocals were was this fucking awesome roar. There weren't a lot of bands that had that vocal type. He did it a little more on "Redeemer" and then even more on "The anti mother", his scream just bleeds into more of a screamo ish whine. I don't really know how to describe it. Just listen to the song "Bayonetwork" and then listen to the song "Robots 3 Humans 0" and you'll know exactly what I mean.
Necrophagist too, to a certain extent. Although I think that if that band had absolutely no vocals, there wouldn't be any change in my opinion of them. They're an awesome metal band, but the vocals are the same tone, all the time. Just growwwwwwwwwl, no ups, downs, it's always that one growl.
But, as I said, the vocals don't take away from the song or anything, they just don't make it better. Which is sort of the point of having vocals, it's the top layer.

BLURURRRGGHHHHH arent vocals. It sounds like Chewbacca getting raped. For a good frontman see Metallica. You may or may not have heard of them. I'm not sure if they sell Metallica stuff at Hot Topic, though, so I don't blame you if you dont know them.

Yes, COB is the first to throw a faggy spastic keyboard and generic death metal together.

Yes, melodic death metal and BLURGHGLRGHRUHGURGHL sound amazing together.
Aggressive SHOULD have aggressive vocals. It's the fucking point. It's what sets these bands apart from radio friendly bullshit metal.
Can I be as hard core and uniquely rebellious as you are?

Necrophagist is probably the gayest name they could have picked. Yes, some skinny faggot in skin tight jeans coughing into a mic with too much gain is the epitome of musical mastery.

The often aggressive lyrical matter in that kind of music, usually calls for an equally aggressive vocal style.
Amon Amarth for example. I listen to them for the viking/battle imagery it offers. I interpret Johan Hegg (the vocalist) as some viking warchief telling his stories (the lyrics) over the crackle of the fire in the bitter winter wind (the wicked intrumentals).
If some soft-spoken singer were to do the same thing as Hegg, it wouldn't have the same effect. Even if he was replaced with Hetfield or Mustaine, it would be a shitty thing all together.
So, I wouldn't say that music you posted is ruined by the vocalist; it's made complete with the vocalist. You need to broaden your horizons or just stay the fuck away from true metal.

So Manowar, Judas Priest, hell, even Hammerfall or Rammstein aren't 'true'metal?

I also think that type of singing sucks. I'd much rather listen to Bruce Dickinson or Ronnie James Dio or Jon Oliva than that kinda shit. Just my preference, and I don't listen to music for viking battle references I listen to it for music.
Do you mean to say Jaems Labrie ruins dream theater or he ruins himself?

I'd say the awesomeness of the band is eclipsed by Labrie's bitchy croaking.

Well, aren't you the coolest guy on totse. You basically said, all harsh metal vocals sound like chewbacca, James Hetfeild is the best metal vocalist, I have never heard of metallica, I only shop at hot topic, they don't sell metallica stuff at hot topic, death metal vocals don't belong in melodic death metal, I'm hardcore and rebellious.
All of these things are clearly false. Not even just false in an opinion sense. But false in a general knowledge sense. James Hetfeild isn't even that fucking good of a vocalist. What makes Metallica a great band is not "James Hetfeild's super godlike vocal talents!"
You very well could have intelligently retorted the points that I made, but you instead just made a bunch of little faggy quippy remarks that contained absolutely no reason.
You also must have missed the whole part about me saying that I definitely don't like necrophagist's vocals.
And to whoever said something about "True metal", thats fucking stupid. There are plenty of awesome metal bands without extreme metal vocals. As someone said, manowar are a good example. But the thing about manowar, is that their vocals fit the music. If manowar had death metal vocals it wouldn't sound good at all.
Just like if Death Metal band had the vocalist from manowar, it wouldn't sound good.
It's dumb to be so closed minded about certain types of metal, vocals in particular. Nowadays, saying that you don't like metal with harsh vocals is like saying you don't like metal with double bass drumming. I couldn't imagine listening to metal with nothing but regular clean vocals. Sure, there are many many good bands with clean vocals, but aggressive music needs aggressive vocals.

DOOD Hetfield's vocals totally fit their music and anything else would suck.
Anyway, Aggressive music doesn't need people jsut making noise or vocals at all for that matter. Actually it probably does, because most of what I've heard is musically subpar so it needs that irritating noise to cover up that fact.
Trivium is aggressive music with aggressive vocals but doesn't sound like a shitty car dying.

Cryptopsy has some kickass music (The Unspoken King excluded) but the vocalist is absolute rubbish.
I listen to Death in spite of their vocalist, because the music is too good not to listen to.

It's easy to see why people don't like growls. It's a pretty fucked up way of singing. And it sounds kinda shitty, and the whole concept of br00tal is fucking hilarious and juvenile to begin with. But I still would say that Mikael Akerfeldt and the Amon Amarth guy are pretty good and suit their music well..
Can't anyone come up with individual singers instead of "every singer like this sucks"?
Like Mike Patton?

Well, its clear that the OP doesn't like or even understand extreme metal. Harsh vocals are used to add atmosphere to the instrumental factor. Having a clean vocalist doesn't necessarily improve the overall quality of the group. James LaBrie has a good range, but he emasculates most of Dream Theaters songs.
