After some painful consideration, I think that I want to spend an extended period of time in London. I am an Australian and I want to spend this year traveling as much as possible. First I intend to go on a drug binge in Cambodia for a few weeks in March, just to blow off steam, and then save up the cash to get to the motherland.

What I am asking is whether it is practical or possible to simply leave for England with nothing more than a passport and a plane ticket and find work?

Is England in a good position if I want to cheaply travel more of Western Europe?

Being an Australian, would I have a better than average chance of finding a short term job?

If any Brits or other people who have done this have any suggestions or pertinent experiences, I would love to hear them ;)

Can't really help you that much but i can say due to the credit crunch jobs are harder to come by maybe looking up some Aussie London based bars and emailing them? Not really sure tbh though flight from here to Europe at short notice can be expensive but not always. Also be prepared for high prices especially in London capital and all that.
