So I might be going to Poland in June, probably Krakow.

What is Poland like? How cheap is the vodka? What are the ho's like? Whats the nightlife like? How widely available are drugs?

Poland's great tbf. People are great, alcohol is cheap and the girls are nice. Not 100% sure on the drug situation, I haven't really done much myself. Amphetamine is popular here; the weeds not too good, and the prices are about same as UK. Might be difficult finding hookups though, I get stuff through friends of friends and never really deal with it.

Krakow is a beautiful city, really stunning, but too many dumbshit Brits have tainted it's image and we have a bad rep. If you head off the beaten track, you'll get a lot of attention and oppurtunities coming your way because the accent is seen as 'wow'.

Do the Polski's speak English?

I'm going for a college trip, but we'll have loads of time for ourselves. Guna see the camps and other related world war 2 stuff in the day, and evenings and nights we can just go out and get hammered. Might take my own weed over.

What could be better than getting pissed in a hotel room with hawt 16/17 year old chicks

And is Poland really empty like the Daily Mail has us believe?

Take your own weed. To be fair, if you try to pick up, you're probably going to get ripped off SO hard (if you can actually find anyone). Triple bag, spray with some aftershave and stash in pouch of tobacco and you should be fine imo.

As for getting hammered, lax on ID here so you should be fine. At least try to learn some basic Polish though. It goes a long way and they appreciate you trying, because nobody learns Polish.

A lot of younger people speak at least a little English, but older people rarely do. If you know German they'll probably understand more.

As for 16/17 year old girls I wouldn't really count on it. I don't really think you'll be seeing too many out. Students at uni would be your prime target, but if you're 17... Hmm, probably won't have too much luck. I haven't been out in Krakow though so I don't know, maybe there's a lot of younger girls trying to score with foreigners and such.

Poland's not empty. Daily Mail are useless faggots who need a clue. It's true there's a lot of people working in UK, but they usually go over for short amount, raise a bit of cashmoneyz and come back. Besides, a lot of people are coming back now.

Revvy, where are you at and what are you doing?

Also, most things Revvy says are true - don't worry about alcohol, for drugs you need friends, chicks are pretty hot (at least compared to Belgian ones and Scottish ones)... Young people know average english, directions and basic shit, don't bother getting into deeper convos. Watch out for local chavs (we call 'em "dresy"), they might fuck you up. Also, watch out for your Ipods and Iphones, this stuff is hot and someone might try to steal 'em off of you.

Also, you said you're gonna be visiting 'teh camps' - there's one where I live, if you're gonna be comin' around I could at least keep you company on a beer or something. When are you coming?

And yeah, older people know good russian, some german, so you'll be able to get through.

It's nowhere near confirmed or anything yet but it should be about June, maybe early July.

Think visitting Krakow-Plaszow or something? Is that a camp?

And the chavs anything like English chavs? Cos if they are then there's nowt to worry about.

Fuck, might be I'll be in NYC since July, but we'll see.

And the chavs hm... just gotta watch your back at night, that's all. They range from 13 to 30 yo's but they're only really present in the poor parts of town and only a little bit in the centers. Got any friends/family here to take you around?

There's a camp in/near Plaszow, which is near or even in Krakow (if I remember correctly) - never been there. I'm ap. 250km north-east, Majdanek camp. Cheaper vodka, more socialist place hehe.

Back tomorrow.

i have only been to kracow an warsaw, and that was only for like 13days last summer. so i am no expert.

but i loved poland, great women who love westerners, tasty beer, good food, a great club scene with a matching drug scene. the hostels were cheap, clean, an full of friendly travelers. the cities are easy to navigate, enough people speak english so that you should be able to get your point across with out having to butcher the local language.
all in all i cant think of one negative thing to say about poland or its people. i am sure it is not all sunshine an rainbows, but i was there for barley two weeks. never got a chance to see the dark side.

Confusing Russian with Polish is a bad mistake here imo :p

If your serious about coming here, it'd probably be best to get yourself a Pimsleur Polish torrent and run through 5 lessons or so.

Yes = Tak
No = Nie (nye)

The food's pretty nice. You should definitely check out:

Zapakanke - a type of Polish fast food which is basically some kind of cooked baquette with toppings on top like cheese, mushroom, bacon, etc. Kind of a mini pizza.

Perogi - Polish dumplings with various fillings inside ranging from meat to berries.

Crap. Near Lublin, east of Katowice. Lots more east :P. Finishing highschool.

What made you come here to teach English, me wonders? Is it good money or some other things?

Oh, and it's more like "zap-yeah-kan-ka". I find it fun to pronounce polish words with english pronunciation :).

BTW, how do you like it here? How do people treat you?

Either the chicks are VERY hot or you're looking at the worst girls in Scotland.

Zapekanki SUCK. Avoid! Zubrowka (bison grass vodka) rules! Enjoy!

Being Russian, I passed through warsaw on my way to belarus and Russia... it was a cool town. Tons of brothels, hot bitches, cheap booze. I don't like polish though. It sounds like Russian being spoken by a drunk cat. Knowing Russian did help me in some language situations by process of deduction (Also seems that polacks can get your drift if you ask them something in Russian if they dunno english) but it didn't help that so many of their words are different.

Sort of like talking to Yanks in English?
