So recently I have been heavily updating my metal album collection because I've started playing the guitar seriously again so I need new sources to add to my playing style. Well, I have discovered some pretty sick ass metal bands in the process and I would love to share them with you guys so here you go.

Facebreaker, Grave, Severe Torture, Sickening Horror, Visceral Bleeding

I'll probably keep adding to this as I find more.

Well, mind giving us a genre or two to narrow it down?

There is so many different kinds of metal, nobody really likes ALL metal. If you say you do, I guarantee I can find you some fucking crazy sub genre that you will not like.

As for metal with good guitar, Children of Bodom pretty much taught me how to rip it.
I've recently got into Devildriver, they would be good to play guitar to as they have a lot of tight double bass/low palm muting stuff, so it's a good workout for your right hand. Their songs are fun as hell to play too.

Death have some excellent guitar work to learn, pretty much any Death song will give you something to learn from.

Immortal are a great band to learn your quick, tight riffing from. Just learning all the songs on "At the Heart of Winter" made me a much much better metal rhythm guitarist. I use those songs to warm up, or just play through the entire album nonstop to keep my stamina up.

Slayer are the same as Immortal for me in guitar playing aspects. All their guitar is super fast riffing. When I've been practicing hard songs for a while, I'll finish strong with "Angel of Death" and it'll usually make my arms burn. Plus, you don't need to know a Slayer solo to play along with it, just shred random notes.

I've been learning some Behemoth songs, and while the guitar isn't really that hard most of the time, every song has one part in it that is really really hard to play.

But, some of these bands may not be in genres you like, or bands you like, but give em a shot. Just because you don't particularly like a band, doesn't mean that you can't learn some good guitar techniques from them.

Plus, the dudes from the bands you listed probably learned guitar by playing Slayer and Death songs.

Cynic is great is you want technical/progressive riffs with jazz elements. If you want heavier shit, look for Necrophagist
