View Full Version : How to tap into wires without stripping them
All I want to do is attach a wire from one wire to the other on a magnetic release switch to render the switch useless, but the wire is insulated and I think it would attract too much attention if there was a section stripped.
How could I tap into the wires beneath the casing?

With a piece of copper shaped into a small needle.

Use a splice. They clamp on and leave just a nick when you take them off.

This right here.

Yeah, those just snap right on.
You could also use some "bed of nails" alligator clips. Or maybe melt a little insulation off with an indirect flame and twist the wires together. Are you "fixing" an alarm system? You have to be sure it's an NC circuit before you short the wires, it could be NO with an EOL resistor.

I don't remember the switch model, but when I looked it up it was a NC circuit type.

It is one of these switches

This is the connection I want to make before the magnetic switch
Will the splices work if the wires are perpendicular? This is not to be permanent so the connection should be able to be removed quickly. Also could you provide a link to the splices, I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right thing.
