Ok, so say I have a tolerance to opiates, but am injured and actually need pain meds from a doctor for a legitimate reason. Should I tell him I have a tolerance to opiates so that he gives me an adequate dosage, or will this make him less likely to even give me anything?? Has anyone here had any experiences with this?

no personal eexperience but I think they would be obligated if the pain was severe and those drugs were required but if only a minor injury thani think u would be fucked.

Wouldn't it make sense to just take more of whatever you have been taking? Unless of course your habit is sky high.

That would probably raise a red flag and send you straight to the tramadol. What is the injury?

It depends on a lot of factors, primarily, the extent of your injury. When I got injured and went to find a new doctor, he said he would give me perc 10's, and I told him that is what I was already receiving from my previous doctor, and they were not that effective, he bumped me to 15mg IR oxycodones. I have a spinal injury from a Tae Kwon Do tournament, with x-rays, and a MRI, so my request was reasonable.

I'm just talking hypothetically

I've always wondered what would happen because I'm a 24mg/day suboxone patient with a ridiculous tolerance to opioids. If I get injured I think I'm fucked :(

As far as the tolerance thing goes, if you were a street addict I don't know how they'd react to that. However if you were legitimately prescribed pain meds before you might have a reason. Now in emergency situations they have to make you comfortable I'm pretty sure so you might have to tell them what's up if your leg is missing and you get a 12mg morphine shot, haha.

This thought has always scared the shit out of me.

I'm going to be weaned eventually but for now I'm staying on it. Doc says I should be kept on it for two years because of how bad my habit was and how long I've been addicted, but I call bullshit on that. I'm at the ceiling dose and my doctor said that I take the highest dose out of any of his patients. It really does jack shit for cravings but it gives me the power to "just say no" :(

To DrZoidberg. If you ever do find yourself in an emergency situation like that it MIGHT be best to inform the doctors that you have a high opiate tolerance if possible so you can get the pain relief you need. If you were unresponsive because of trauma you might be fucked though. I have a friend who was a nurse for a long long time, I should ask her.
