If you lurk in the Blockbuster Horror section, you will recognize this as the collective name for a group of indie horror films that I think went straight to video. I have seen about half of them, and the most notable thing about them is their inconsistency.

Last night, saw Tooth and Nail--which had Michael Masden in a role little bigger than a cameo. It was a post-apocalyptic (sp?) thing with a dumb premise, lame directing, amatuerish acting, stilted dialogue and a predictable plot twist after the first hour which did little to make watching the thing more bearable--I ended up doing housework while it was on and just sort of glancing at it from time to time.

However, the previous night I saw Borderland--a teens get in trouble in a foreign land subgenre thing--and was impressed. Original premise, credible baddies, nice revenge subplot. I intend to watch it again tonight with the director's commentary.

These are the movies from Horrorfest, right?

I watched two of the ones that came out 2 years ago. The only one I liked was that Gravedancers one, which was cheesy, low-budget, but still kind of creepy at times. There was this Japanese one called Resurrection, but it was so slow and boring that I never finished it. The rest looked so low-budget and crappy that I didn't bother.

BUT, I do like the concept. Hopefully they keep doing it.

Looks like they just had this year's Horrorfest. The trailers could be very misleading, but it looks like they got a bigger budget this time.
