As the pub philosopher put it: Last month, When the Rhone departement in France decided to build a memorial to commemorate genocide, a gang of skinheads from Germany turned up to demonstrate against the project. The skinheads, dressed in black, red and white protested that the genocide had never happened!
Now you might assume that the French authorities would have banned the demonstration and anti-fascists would also be there to give the skinheads some opposition. In the event, there was no major counter demonstration and the holocaust-deniers went ahead with their protest, protected by the French state!
Outrageous, you may think. Oh but hang on a minute, the skinheads were Turks and the genocide was committed against Armenians. That's OK then. Carry on with your demonstration, chaps.
Protest of Turkish skinheads in Lyon
The préfecture of the Rhône département authorized a demonstration of Turkish skinheads, that came from Germany by bus, to protest against a project of a memorial of the Armenian genocide.
The protest of the Turkish extremist group, called the ‘Gray Wolves’, started at place Bellecour, in front of the equestrian statue of king Louis XIV. They benefited of the protection of the CRS, and therefore of the French state. On the signs, the Turkish negationnists claimed “There never was an Armenian genocide!”
