Fritz is right. Every administration since 1947 is to blame. that is when Truman took a million bucks in cash from a jew on his campaign trail in exchange for recognition of israel. this was stated by one gore vidal in an introduction by a book by israel shahak in case youre factchecking keystein.

One more thing Keystein. It is significant. Nobody in recent memory in the Senate has said anything like that and only Robert Byrd has come close. Cynthia McKimmey was a House rep who said such and the Jews ousted her. You ought to edjewcate yourself in current events before you presume to rebut me Keystein. Hollings isn't "naming the jew" in the way you would like. He didn't advocate killing all of them.

He mentions the futility of militaristic solutions to the situation in Israel and urges diplomacy and negotiations. He blames every admin since 1947.

He also mentions the lack of ongoing serious Palestinian involvment in the peace process.

He's also a Democrat. What did you expect? Partisan politics as usual. The Repubs would say the same things if the circumstances were reversed.

Hollings is 82 years old and is not running for reelection. He probably now feels largely released from whoredom and able to speak some truth. Mild criticism of Israel is OK, but specifically linking the Iraq War to concerns for Israeli security is a definite no-no. Just ask abe foxman, the weekly standard or the national review crowds if you don't believe me. If they don't ignore his remarks I expect them to make references to his age and probable senility.

The US should stay out of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and disengage herself from any participation in it except diplomacy. In other words, " Call us when you're finished killing each other."

Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia (originally Massachusetts) wimped out, started crying, then begged forgiveness after he made a few modest comments criticizing jews and israel. I expect you will stand by what you said and just generally act like a man. Moran proved himself incapable of that and has been a laughingstock ever since.

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- U.S. Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollings (D-SC) is under fire for remarks he made in an opinion column where he accused President Bush of going to war in Iraq "to secure Israel."

"Of course there were no weapons of mass destruction," Hollings stated in the column. "Israel's intelligence, Mossad, knows what's going on in Iraq. They are the best. They have to know."

The South Carolina senator continued, "Israel's survival depends on knowing. Israel long since would have taken us to the weapons of mass destruction if there were any or if they had been removed. With Iraq no threat, why invade a sovereign country? The answer: President Bush's policy to secure Israel."

Hollings asserted that President Bush followed a Middle East policy "led by Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, and Charles Krauthammer.

"[F]or years there has been a domino school of thought that the way to guarantee Israel's security is to spread democracy in the area," Hollings stated.

"The whole foreign policy of the United States is based on Israel? What kind of ridiculous statement is that?" said Rabbi Philip Silverstein of Columbia's Beth Shalom synagogue in comments to "The State," a South Carolina news source.

"It makes him anti-Israel. It's anti-Semitic ... it's dangerous," continued the Rabbi.

Later in his article, Sen. Hollings explained the president's motivations by saying, "He came to office imbued with one thought -- reelection. Bush felt tax cuts would hold his crowd together and spreading democracy in the Mideast to secure Israel would take the Jewish vote from the Democrats."

In a letter written to a constituent and released by his office, the senator defended his remarks by saying there are Jewish leaders in both the U.S. and Israel who support his position. His office did not identify those leaders.

The Anti-Defamation League has asked Sen. Hollings to publicly disavow his comments concerning Israel.

"Certainly, discussing and questioning policy is the right and duty of all responsible leaders. But when the debate veers into anti-Jewish stereotyping, it is tantamount to scapegoating and an appeal to ethnic hatred," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, in a letter published on the ADL web site.

"This is reminiscent of age-old, anti-Semitic canards about a Jewish conspiracy to control and manipulate government," Foxman continued.

Sen. Hollings's statements were published in a column in the "Charleston Post and Courier" on May 6 and have been entered into the Congressional Record.

The South Carolina Democrat is no stranger to race-based controversy. According to South Carolina's "The State," Hollings has been known to make a number of insensitive racial remarks over the years, once referring to a Jewish colleague as the "senator from B'nai B'rith."

In 1983 Hollings accused U.S. Sen. Alan Cranston of California, of importing "wetbacks" into Iowa.

And on African leaders, Hollings said, "Everybody likes to go to Geneva. I used to do it for the Law of the Sea conferences, and you'd find these potentates from down in Africa. Rather than eating each other, they'd just come up and get a good square meal in Geneva."

The senator has thus far declined to retract or apologize for his most recent remarks. They remain on his web site

South Carolina senator denies that statements are anti-Semitic

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. George Allen blasted Sen. Ernest Hollings, D-S.C., this week for what he called anti-Semitic statements in a column Hollings wrote on Iraq. Hollings denied the charge.

"I denounce and deplore Senator Hollings' anti-Semitic, political-conspiracy statements," Allen, R-Va., said Wednesday. "I strongly repudiate and condemn Senator Hollings' intolerant assertions."

Yesterday, Hollings took to the Senate floor to defend himself, assail President Bush's handling of Iraq policy and expand upon the views that sparked criticism from Allen and some others.

"I don't apologize for this column," he said, portraying himself as "a big friend of Israel" with a "38-year track record." Before reading his column aloud, he told colleagues, "You'll find in it there's no anti-Semitic reference whatsoever."

In the column, published in three South Carolina newspapers this month, Hollings wrote that Bush went to war with Iraq to protect Israel and appease American Jews.

Hollings wrote, "With Iraq no threat, why invade a sovereign country? The answer: President Bush's policy to secure Israel."

He added that Bush "came to office imbued with one thought - re-election. Bush felt tax cuts would hold his crowd together and spreading democracy in the Mideast to secure Israel would take the Jewish vote from the Democrats."

The president of the Anti-Defamation League, Abraham Foxman, wrote Hollings asking him to retract his comments.

"This is reminiscent of age-old, anti-Semitic canards about a Jewish conspiracy to control and manipulate government," Foxman wrote.

Allen heads the National Republican Senatorial Committee, a GOP arm pushing to increase the Republican Senate majority. He also leads a Foreign Relations Committee panel that has held hearings on the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe.

On the Senate floor yesterday, Hollings said he and Allen "are good friends. Maybe after this particular thing he might have a difference. But I know his role as the chairman of the campaign committee."
